Because removing a destroyed tank or Martian Tripod without leaving at least smoke behind is just plain anti-climactic. Here's a quick tutorial on making (I think) good looking, cheap and easy smoke effects. link |

Giant smokey columns are good. :) I really like putting the cheap flickering LED candles in the bases. |

My brother is of the opinion that someday we'll see 3D holographic projectors for smoke, fires and explosions. Let's face it, no matter how good a job you do with cotton or the like it just doesn't come up to snuff. Watch how smoke expands out of the muzzle of a cannon and you just can't match that. or smoke coming out of a locomotive or a ship smokestack. Someone needs to invent that, it would be so cool. |

At that point, we'll be in VR on horseback giving orders as Napoleon. Until then, we'll have to be satisfied with stuff like this. ;) |
