Good morning! I recently finished up my Seven Years War Swiss Eptingen regiment and I thought that they turned out pretty well!

I mixed all of my own triad colors from 13 pots of Games Workshop paints.

The miniatures are from Front Rank and the flags are GMB. I found that the Front Rank figures were easy to paint with their high level of detail in and around the facial area. The GMB flags are always the perfect finish for a regiment!

There are a few more progress pictures on my blog and the photos are much larger there. Just hit the "Swiss" filter to see them. Thanks for looking!

Mike B – Thank you very much! The yellow actually looks much better in person. I did it with the following triad using Games Workshop paints:

The Yellow lapels, turnbacks and cuffs are primed in black with Armory Black Spray Primer.
Base – Yriel Yellow 1:1 Tau Light Ochre (almost a tan color)
Mid – Yriel Yellow (a warm sunflower yellow)
Highlight – Flash Gitz Yellow (a bright, cool lemon yellow)

I found that building yellow up from a tan makes it really pop!

Nice! Which figs? British or Austrian?

Spontoon -

These Front Rank figures are a Swiss regiment who fought with the French.

Next up for me are some Prussian Fusiliers by Crusader Miniatures. The sculpts look great and I am anxious to get started!

@ Spontoon: French I think, SF31 for the ranks and 38 for the officer. The sergeant looks like SF13 with the lapels painted on.

@ Squad Painter: Great brushwork – looking forward to those Prussians!

SquadPainter29 Jun 2015 6:44 a.m. PST

Musketier – You are correct. The infantry are SYF31 which gave me the cuffs, turnbacks and coat lapels that I needed. The sergeant is the SYF13. I painted lapels on the figures where I could if they didn't have them. When you get close you can see it, but when you are glancing at the unit the deception works pretty well. It was a fun trompe l'oeil exercise!

Thank you for the kind words! I appreciate them.

@ Squad Painter and Musketier;

Thanks for the info! Not a big fan of Front Rank figs, but you make them look better than most!

I'm currently working on three battalions of French Swiss; but sticking to the ones with blue facings. Swiss couldn't be brigaded with other nationalities by there terms of service, so gotta paint enough for a brigade!

Thank you for the compliment! These were my first Front Rank miniatures and I was pleased with how easy it was to get detail picked out on the faces.

What figures are you using for your French Swiss? I'm always curious to see what others are up to.

"a fun trompe-l'oeil exercise"

- and a very successful one! The sergeant and ensign fit in perfectly. You had me scouring the Front Rank pages for figures with lapels for quite a while before I realised their buttons were on the inside edge…

SquadPainter02 Jul 2015 6:58 a.m. PST

Musketier -

Ha! Sorry about that! Yes, the buttons are a giveaway. I thought about filing them down and maybe putting some putty in the button holes, but I decided against it. I don't enjoy converting miniatures at all… I just love painting them.

The black-lining technique of the Foundry method of painting fools the eye convincingly when they are on the table. It was fun to see if I could pull it off.

Thanks for the comment!
