I've decided to finish up old projects, so I'm looking for painting services. I have several hundred 15mm Gauls I will never paint myself, so I'm seeking recommendations for someone who can do nice looking Celtic figures to my requirements:
- No two figures alike, lots of stripes/plaids/hems, a wide variety of shield patterns, a rainbow of colors
- Properly muted fabric colors, not too bright or high intensity
- Blended shading, not black-line or blocky high contrast
- The ability to make the figures look "Celtic" without explicit instructions
About that last point: I've been told some services require pretty clear and/or explicit instructions, which is impractical with Celts. I don't want to have to send a complete painting guide for each of 500 15mm figures… I'm willing to send some basic instructions and even a few particulars about special figures (e.g. command figures), but I'd also like to feel comfortable that where my instructions fall short the artist will be able to use creative interpretation to make a properly wild, individualistic, and Celtic-looking army. - Ix |

So are you looking to spend $3 USD-5 a miniature for this project? I would like to see how it turns out. Steve |

I'd prefer to keep it down to $1 USD-$2.50 per figure (2x for cav, etc.) if I can. I've seen really nice results from Fernando in that price range. - Ix |

You may want to go with one of the Asian painting services then. For what you are looking to pay most NA painters like me only offer a basic level of painting. What you are looking for is a high collector paint job on 15mm miniatures. The only problem with the Asian painting services you would have to give real detailed instructions. |

Yellow Admiral: The Celtic part is not too hard to deal with even with Asian services. The real challenge is (a) your price and (b) your desire for blended shading. I have had LOTS of 15mm painted for me. At the low $1 USD-1.50 per, I expect only very limited shading and that of the high contrast Dallimore style. At $3 USD-3.50 I get good shading but again not blended shading. Given their wildness I would strongly urge you to settle for block painting over toned down prime (say, medium browin instead of black). |

Warcolours, where are you based ? You don't give prices on your website, so could you let us know how much you would charge for figures painted like the ones in the photo above. |
Warcolours Painting Studio | 26 Jun 2015 2:29 a.m. PST |
We are based in Italy. For figures like those above we generally charge €2.00 EUR for foot figure, €3.00 EUR for cavalry, but things might change for range, figure complexity and also woth the size of the order |

So for those in the US you would be looking at about $2.25 USD/$3.35 a miniature and about $50 USD-$70 to ship to Italy. I am not sure how much shipping from Italy would be? For that many figure it may be worth it. |

THe shipping costs depend on the weight, as a general rule for a tracked shipping to the USA you can expect to pay something like €44.00 EUR for a 3 kg package and €65.00 EUR for a 5kg |

@T34forU – holy crap! the shields on those 28mm Vikings in your gallery are nice! Were those done by hand? - Ix |
Karnophage | 30 Jun 2015 2:55 p.m. PST |
Those appear to be hand painted shields. |

They were indeed done by hand. Needless to say, I enjoy painting vikings. Thanks for the kind words guys. |
