the 'ebay bans confederate flag topic'. Now comes back as no such topic/id. did it escalate? |
MajorB | 24 Jun 2015 3:07 p.m. PST |
It got nuked, I believe. I don't know why. |
Flashman14 | 24 Jun 2015 3:31 p.m. PST |
I started one in Blue Fez a couple days ago knowing it wouldn't pass muster in the wargames section. |

I can't imagine that'd go well as a topic |
jpattern2 | 24 Jun 2015 4:08 p.m. PST |
No, 79thPA, there was another one that was nuked. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 24 Jun 2015 4:57 p.m. PST |
A bit too "current affairs" for unimpassioned discussion. |
15th Hussar | 24 Jun 2015 5:05 p.m. PST |
Which I pointed out in the 8th post…it was close to 60 when last I saw it. Should have been nuked at birth, but at least it was dealt with. |
darthfozzywig | 24 Jun 2015 5:49 p.m. PST |
I started the original one, specifically focused on wargaming and reenacting, both highly relevant to this site. It may be "political", but when politics directly affect this site's focus, it seems like that should not only be allowed but encouraged. |

So what is the consensus of opinion regarding the living history and re-enacting scene? How is this going to effect that. I did union army for over 20 years. |
Mako11 | 24 Jun 2015 6:34 p.m. PST |
I suspect Union Army will be fine. Of course, you'll need to find some new, PC opponents for them. Bears, cougars (not the hot, female kind), rattlesnakes, etc., might do. I suspect fighting the CSA, and/or indigenous people will be frowned upon by the PCP. |

The Civil War Council I belong to is having a discussion about the subject right now. This is before the 4th reenactment . Robert |

Dukes of Hazard will be Ok though won't it? Won't it? |
DS6151 | 25 Jun 2015 5:47 a.m. PST |
I suspect fighting the CSA, and/or indigenous people will be frowned upon by the PCP. Well, duh. You can't have a "reenactment" for things that never happened. |
darthfozzywig | 25 Jun 2015 8:29 a.m. PST |
Dukes of Hazard will be Ok though won't it? Won't it? My friend and I were joking about that yesterday. Dukes of Hazzard will still be ok, but they'll blur the Rebel flag on the side of the General Lee (like naughty bits!) and replace the "Dixie" horn sound with "Yankee Doodle." |
darthfozzywig | 25 Jun 2015 8:34 a.m. PST |
Oh, and for those who pooh-poohed the notion that this would affect anything other than displays at government buildings, let's add museums to the list: link
In a widely circulated photo that's indicative of Dylann Roof's ideologies, he's pictured in front of the Confederate Museum in Charleston, South Carolina, one emblazoned with the Confederate flag, and the image shocked Americans. But shouldn't we be more concerned with the fact that such an establishment continues to operate? Or that it's far from the only museum of its kind? I'm sure it'll be ok, though, since it's only those sorts of museums, right? |
Weasel | 25 Jun 2015 9:18 a.m. PST |
I wrote like three different posts, but I don't fancy a trip to the DH. To hell with it. |
darthfozzywig | 25 Jun 2015 9:36 a.m. PST |
It's funny to see people get more upset about their flags than the actual shooting. Those are two unrelated topics. I'm talking about flags because the attempt to ban the imagery (and now growing movement to close museums, etc.) may impact wargaming, which is the subject of this site. We have a climate where certain discussions simply are not permitted to exist, because shrill voices will shout and shriek until the discussion is over. The murders, horrific as they are, aren't part of The Miniatures Page, are they? If so, by all means start a thread on that. Similarly, racism doesn't seem to fall under the range of topics for discussion here, but if you think it does, please start a thread. If you're talking at a national level, lots of people are talking about mental health, crime, racism, and the access to firearms. |
jpattern2 | 25 Jun 2015 10:07 a.m. PST |
I posted simple two-word obits for each of the 9 people killed. Very few views, very few responses. What does that say? |
darthfozzywig | 25 Jun 2015 10:12 a.m. PST |
What does that say? Why don't you tell us? |
Mako11 | 25 Jun 2015 12:27 p.m. PST |
Perhaps, this can be the new flag, for the kinder, gentler, CSA:
Then again, maybe not, since it might be labeled as racist, eventually.

As I am married to a Vermonter, I'd be remiss if I didn't suggest using the last flag wielded by the CSA :-)

God help you if someone commits a racial crime wearing a Star Spangled Banner that will be banned too. The lunatics have taken over the asylum. |

The lunatics have taken over the asylum. Or the sane are regaining control. To-may-to, to-mah-to. |
Mako11 | 26 Jun 2015 9:47 a.m. PST |
So, a French flag? Works for Louisiana units perhaps, but I'm not so sure about the others. |
Murphy | 26 Jun 2015 1:26 p.m. PST |
I'd be remiss if I didn't suggest using the last flag wielded by the CSA :-) Actually Weasel you are incorrect… The last flags were the 3rd National and the Naval Jack flown from the CSS Shenandoah as she pulled into Liverpool England in November 1865…. |

Dang! How could he be so wrong, and yet so right at the same time? |
