Thanks to a post by Tango I am now at another crossroads. You may recall that earlier I asked about the best 15mm ACW figures. I don't wargame with them, I do dioramas. This of course means that I am often looking for a great variety of poses as I am pretty much looking to make 1-1 scale regiments of the 20th ME at Gettysburg, a Regiment (still undecided) of the Iron Brigade, and a Regiment of the Texas Brigade. I usually do 28mm but had decided to downsize due to cost and room issues. I bought a pack of Battle Honors 15mm and I like them (plus its what my LGS carries)… But… I was looking at Tango's post of some beautiful figures of Lee and Longstreet and a couple of artillery pieces that were in 1/72nd scale and now I wonder, since I am at the beginning of this downsizing, should I go with 1/72nd scale figures instead? Now I know nothing about figures in this scale (plenty about models, nothing about figures though). I have seen boxes of Imex for sale but I believe that those are soft plastic and I am looking for hard (styrene) plastic or metal. Who are the manufacturers and what are their figures like? As I said I will be looking for variety as well as quality so part of the question will be if there are enough 1/72nd scale figures to give me a decent variety of figures. See with 15mms I figure that I can go with Battle Honors and then get figures from OG, AB, Stone Mountain, Musket Minis (if they get back and running)and so on. Or am I better off sticking with 15mms? BTW, I chose 15mm over Blue Moon's 18mm (which are very nice) because since they seem to be the only company making 18mm ACW I figured that I would run out of my sought after variety fairly quickly. Your opinions on this matter eagerly sought, Thanks Much. |

There are other companies that make 15mm figures with a variety of poses in the packs, such as Stone Mountain, Viking Forge, Scale Creep, Peter Pig, QRF, Essex, CP Models, and Old Glory 15s (with the latter possibly having response reliability issues). Just check the manufacturers directory for their store URLs. Most if not all have pictures. Jim |

Old Glory is your best bet for dioramas. Energetic infantry packs, melee packs, Eastern/Western theater units and command. Everything you would need with little gaps in coverage. Plus they have all those vignettes in the Generals packs, Lincoln, Brady, civilians, observation tower, etc. |

There are masses of 1/72 figures available. It is the main scale used in Europe, with 28mm and 15mm being more of an 'Anglo-World' thing. The Germans in particular, seem to be fond of massive dioramas in 1/72. They also have metal 1/72 figures, bespoke 1/72 figures, all sorts of stuff! I don't know if you are aware to this site, but it is a good starting point…. link |

Yes, Plastic Soldier Review is my bible! I do lots of 1/72 ACW along with other eras. Even if you only use half the figures in a box it's still a cheaper alterative. To order try the following sites: Toy Soldier Company link Hobby Bunker hobbybunker.com/about Welcome to the addictive world of 1/72! |
