Although the defenders of Hulayhilah could count on more men and heavy weaponry than their adversaries, the fighters of the Islamic State were already too close to the town to be hit with artillery. Instead of utilising the remaining weapon systems, or making a last ditch effort to counter and possible stop this sudden assault by the fighters of the Islamic State while entrenched in the many buildings in Hulayhilah, most entered the nearest vehicle they could find and drove off or fled on foot, leaving their comrades behind.The fighters of the Islamic State subsequently chased some of the fleeing regime forces down, which stood no chance in the vast and empty desert. Others that didn't flee fought to their deaths or were captured and executed, some of them after being found hiding in two vehicle pits. Sounds too familar. I guess the Iraqi Army isn't the only Arab army who cuts and runs when the going gets rough. Sadly, these guys would probably be okay if they "stuck to their guns" and fought it out. |

I guess the Iraqi Army isn't the only Arab army who cuts and runs when the going gets rough. It seems to be a regional/cultural norm … What makes it worse is all the blood and treasure wasted on those that appear don't deserve it. |

Indeed not. For many years, various guerilla groups have been making their own ad hoc launchers for single BM-21 122mm Grad and BM-14 140mm rockets that are renowned for their lack of accuracy or any sort of military value. This seems to be a factory-built extension of that idea. |

I agree with that tuscaloosa … I wish the Iraqis went "guerilla" on Daesh like they did with the US and the Coalition in GWII. But that won't happen for a number of reasons. Among the reasons, many of those fighters went to Daesh. And as a 1ID Vet mentioned to me, which made sense. We killed off a lot of their "good" fighters as well. |

Yes, we see this time and time again with Hamas and others like them. As the West strives for accuracy. To hit the target and limit collateral damage. Most/all guerilla/terrorists/jihadi types are happy with their weapons if they just hit a bunch of buildings. Regardless of their military value if any, etc. … |
