With the arrival of the hot and humid season, my usual practice of spraying final clear coats out in the garage has to go on hiatus.

Does anyone out there spray finished models with any of the various water-based varnishes (e.g. Testors Acryll or Vallejo) using an airbrush? I have some larger models I need to clear coat and that would allow me do so in the climate controlled basement without stinking up the house.

Any thoughts? Tips? Tricks? Success stories or cautionary tales of woe?

I spray both Testors Gloss / Dullcoate through the airbrush. I have also sprayed Future as a Gloss Coat prior to weathering (cleaned with Windex).

I have tried the various acrylic varnishes and the Vallejo performs very well; no thinning required, sprayed at 15 psi. through an Iwata HP-CS.

I have sprayed Future successfully through my airbrush, although I am trying to use up my aerosols so finished models are still getting that.

I use the Vallejo RC matte varnish (acrylic/polyurethane) I like it but haven't tested how tough it is. Nice and Matt and not stinky

Thanks

I use Vallejo matte varnish with Grex airbrush. No problems. Routine cleaning only. Previous airbrush really did not work with varnishes. Grex has no problem.

Vallejo through an airbrush is all I use. I mix it 50/50 with their own airbrush thinner.

Thanks for the responses! I will definitely try this out soon

I have been using Winsor & Newton Galeria Matt Varnish. I have been able to shoot it straight through my airbrush (5mm tip). It also is a bit cheaper then the most other Varnishes.
