True or false: Sloppy painters have more fun, because they spend less time painting and more time wargaming. |

What's the point of gaming with ugly figures? It takes just as long to paint an ugly figure as an acceptable one, so why not try to paint well? |

"Sloppy", "well", "good" "bad" are all personal interpretations so would vary from individual to individual Even painting services recognize this by offering different levels of painting at varied prices. A Wargames standard army would be acceptable to some but not all. |

I'm far from sloppy but certainly not professional. I also get quite a bit of gaming in. |

Research, figure prep and painting are relaxing for me and just as enjoyable as the actual game. |

I'm not sloppy but I do use a lot of shortcuts and time-saving techniques. This gives me two things: 1) More time to wargame and 2) a much bigger collection of painted figures! |

I am a sloppy painter and personally I find I enjoy myself more that way. But some people actually like to paint figures so being a sloppy painter wouldn't be as much fun for them. As Toronto48 said, it depends on one's "personal interpretation." |

I'm just getting into washes and It's a sloppy kind of experience, but I temper this with my usual dry-brushing for the high-lights, so I'm all in favour if it speeds up the process. I don't paint to sell so its just me I have to please. |

I think perhaps sloppy isn't the right word and I suppose it depends on the person. If you are only interested in aesthetics then you are not going to have 'fun' with sloppy figures, but then you are unlikely to be a sloppy painter in the first place. On the other hand I think far too much effort seems to be lavished on miniatures that are described as"wargames figures". Perhaps a better question might be " Who gets more wargaming done, the chap who has a handful of exquisitely painted miniatures or the chap with boxes and boxes of passably painted wargames figures"? As to who has the most fun… |

I do the best I can do for me. If other people don't like it, or it's not up to their standards…. |

I never miss out on a game because I am painting. If I want to game, I use existing figures or sit up late at night to finish them. So the time I spend painting has nothing to do with how much gaming I get done. |

When painting my 54's I paint in block colours with no highlights/drybrushing/washes, etc. I'm not sure I'd call it sloppy per se (it's actually rather neat), but it is a more relaxing process than painting "realistic" figures, at least for me. |

Two different facets of the same hobby, gaming and painting. Some people are content to simply spray their figures(Army Painter for example) and then play, others are not. |

Choctaw's comment +1. Depending on my opponent, I actually enjoy the research, modeling and painting MORE than playing. |

As a definitely sloppy painter I used to spend lots of time painting over the slopped edges two, three or even more times. I now find that black or (more usually) brown ink washes hide a lot of the slops. |
