I painted my first 6mm Napoleonics, they are British Line infantry by Baccus and there's a couple of pictures on the blog:

I think I would need a magnifying glass the size of a bus to paint them, lovely work as always.

normsmith21 Jun 2015 11:27 a.m. PST

Good transition from your 15mm work.

morrigan21 Jun 2015 11:37 a.m. PST

Very tidy paint job.

Very nice…paint me some.

Abwehrschlacht21 Jun 2015 2:12 p.m. PST

Thanks guys, they are very small indeed. I think I went cross eyed after just these four, so we'll see how we get on with the rest of the pack…

rampantlion21 Jun 2015 2:17 p.m. PST

Those are nice! Baccus figs are fun to paint.

Abwehrschlacht21 Jun 2015 2:21 p.m. PST

Thanks a million, yes, the detail is brilliant and really helps with painting!

There is no dot smaller or line thinner to be painted on a 6mm figure than you find on 15mm or 28mmm castings.

6mm are actually far easier to paint than bigger figures as they are far more forgiving of mistakes and liberate you from the tyranny of irrelevant detail and multi-coats of shading and highlighting.

Have to agree with Peter @ Baccus 6mm; painting 6 mm is a doddle. I find they are particularly good using black primer, white dry brush over this and then a thinned layer of the main colours ( which stains the white dry brush layer) followed by " Magic Wash" and a delicate dry brush- I did over 300 ACW Federals in less than three weeks of my " half hour" sessions- takes that long to do a dozen 15 mm.

Just got my 6mm Napoleonic British. Haven't painted them. Still finishing off my AWI Anglo-Hessians.

Nice work. Very brave to tackle black lining! I just paint the cross belts strait over the two tone uniform. Looks striking but a little less finesse.

Dynaman878921 Jun 2015 6:18 p.m. PST

Excellent.

Cheers guys, I found these pretty quick to paint, as Baccus says, there is a lot of forgiveness in them. The black lining comes from the black primer, the rest of the paint is just layered up on top of that. I did no shading besides an extra layer of flesh on the face.
