That's a new violation description I had never heard of.

No link was provided to see what the supposed violation actually is/was.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Trashing GW products for being GW? Dunno.

Intrepide21 Jun 2015 9:28 a.m. PST

Seems to be over a couple of mild criticisms or observations about GW. Quite an overreaction IMO.

nazrat21 Jun 2015 9:47 a.m. PST

He tends to go to many threads about GW and constantly talk trash, along with at least one other that really should have gotten the punishment as well (or instead). It has happened before with Flames of War. One guy got banned (twice!) because he went to every single thread about FoW and trashed the rules and figures, no matter what the subject was. Once in a while is fine, but after a while it's simply obnoxious. It's a fair cop…

Intrepide21 Jun 2015 10:15 a.m. PST

I only spotted a couple of posts at a glance. Haven't studied the posting history extensively.

I think a better 'rule' might be something along the lines of 'product/vendor denigration', when it is just an unsupported hatchet job on a product or entity.

"These deformed monstrosities make horse dung look good" is an entirely different thing than "Proportions are off, details are indistinct, tooling and casting marks mar the surface and the subject of chained leper babies is questionable at best". The first is a hatchet job, the second a critique.

nazrat21 Jun 2015 10:42 a.m. PST

Yes, but when the thread subject is, for example, "I Had a Great Time Playing This Game" the figure criticisms are out of line.

I knew who it was, before I looked in the DH. Fancy that!

Might be easier playing a game you do enjoy than spending a lot of time complaining about the ones you don't.

Some people seem to get their jollies by being obnoxious bores on TMP and the internet in general. The only reason to go onto a thread and start trashing the rules, figures, and the players and collectors of such is a type of trolling in my book. As Nazrat stated doing it once and stating your opinion in a polite manner is fine, but trying to take a crap on other people's parade because you think you are superior is simply being an jerk. The particular person in question I have placed on stifle and ignore some time ago and it has made my TMP experience all the better.

Intrepide21 Jun 2015 8:53 p.m. PST

Trolling other people's gaming enthusiasms certainly deserves a whack with a rolled up newspaper. I'm all for compare and contrast style analyses, but I remember Hal Thinglum had a rule to never gratuitously knock any gaming product. Someone somewhere out there got some good out of the product, was his reasoning if I recall correctly. That is a good rule.

I was not aware of the background in this instance, and stand corrected.

Aah, but I think the aforementioned harassment IS the game.

I'm not sure who Hal Thinglum is (Intrepide's post, above) but he's a wise soul.

Cyrus the Great22 Jun 2015 6:41 a.m. PST

He was the editor of MWAN.

Looks to see if its who I think it is……oh yeah, then I guess it would be going to almost every GW thread to bash GW, no matter what the topic is about.

I'm like may ex-GW customers, not a fan but I've long gone past the anger stage, to the shake my head when I see the products and prices stage. I feel no need to vent my anger whenever I see a GW topic.

nazrat22 Jun 2015 2:43 p.m. PST

I don't play any more either, but still can't bring myself to divest myself of any of my armies. Too many memories of too much fun!

As for bashing GW, I see way too many guys locally having entirely too much fun playing with their toys (overpriced or not) to say anything bad about them or the game they love. Good on 'em if they are enjoying themselves!!!

Winston Smith22 Jun 2015 6:20 p.m. PST

If you are having fun, screw the nay-sayers.

Winston Smith22 Jun 2015 6:23 p.m. PST

I once was one of the nay-sayers. I do not like the DBX system and took every opportunity to point out its "shortcomings".
Them I realized I was being an ass and a jerk. So I stopped.
Hey. If you are having fun you are doing it right.

"Hal Thinglum is one of the nicest Men in our hobby and I miss MWAN !!!"

Yes he is and so do I.

HUBCommish22 Jun 2015 8:45 p.m. PST

Hal recently moved to my city, and we enjoyed a fine game of Pike and Shotte just last week! And he did seem like a pretty nice guy.
