For your basing and terrain needs, where do you buy tufts? * Games Workshop online * Games Workshop store * Hobby Lobby store * I make my own * I don't use tufts * what are tufts? etc. |

Antenociti or anywhere that has them cheap if they look nice. John T |

Been buying the one's from Warlord games either directly when I have an order or as part of other orders through the Warstore. I don't know if I have ever seen the one's GW sells thinking about it. The ones I have bought are the Highland and the winter ones which are a wonderful look and contrast on big bases in particular. Erik |

I've bought a few of the Army Painter brand off Amazon, but I would like to find some cheaper. Bob |

I've noticed our local Hobbytown doesn't stock Noch. Hobby Lobby does, but only the larger sizes. |

I'm not sure if they have changed them recently, but the GW ones aren't great. The plastic backing stuff doesn't conform to the groundwork, so it sort of sits on top of it. I buy mine from local model shop x2. Think they're Siflor(?) and some Army Painter ones. I like tufts. I don't use them exclusively though, amongst static grass and other things. |

Leadbear of Australia. Great stuff, self adhesive that really works and come in a variety of lengths (up to 12mm)and colour. |

Scenic Express scenicexpress.com A fantastic assortment and way cheaper than Games Workshop. Lately I've been using tufts a lot. They really spruce up a base. |

I buy them from Games Workshop but I didn't know that scenic express had them. I can almost walk there. The GW ones are cheaper than any of the other ones I've tried. |

I make my own now as it's easy to do once you have the right tool. Prior to that, I used to buy them from Scenic Express. |

John, "tufts" are self-adhesive clumps of miniature standing long grass or even flowers that can be added to a figures base. It really livens up the base more then simple flocking. |

From Scenic Express. They carry almost all of the brands used by model railroaders. Pricing is better than the gaming companies. Soon I will make my own Mike |

Glengarry5: TMP link Also see the April 2015 Hornby magazine. I still haven't used all the Army Painter ones I bought yet, but when I do, I have a significant collection of the 1/45 Mininatur series available from Realms of Magic and Miniatures. Not such big packs as the GW ones, which I've never bothered with, but the way GW prices are in Australia, for the price of the latter one could get more of the Mininatur tufts by buying two, maybe three packs for a comparable cost or less. They also have maple foliage and flowers. |

So far I have bought mine from Scenic Express. I have thought about making my own but that will take more time. There are a lot of sites out there that show different techniques to make your own. warpainter.net sells a ready made box. Google around and you will find a few more like: Edit nevinsrip's post has probably the best looking home made tufts though. |

My Answer: What are tufts? Thanks to Glengarry5, I now know. Just something to keep in mind for the right kind of base. |

Forget exactly where, but I got mine in the UK. Cheaper with shipping than buying them local in the US. |

It's so cheap and easy to make your own I can now produce a batch faster than I can go on line and order them… all you're really paying for is shipping and handling to get them from the chap that made them to your own front door so I'd encourage everybody to just have a try. |

Great stuff, self adhesive that really works I have never found ones that stick without the use of glue – certainly not that I'd trust anyway. I superglue mine (of whatever manufacturer) onto the bases. That pretty much guarantees that they'll never come off! John T |

ditto to Timurilank Leadbear of Australia. Great stuff, they actually stick to the bases. Wouldn't use any others now. |

I use a rather dodgy static grass applicator I made using a tutorial from YouTube. This is just one of the many tutorials on how to make the applicator and the one that convinced me to give it a go – YouTube link This explains how to make the tufts – YouTube link I can't remember if the tutorial gives any warnings, but you need to be careful when using it as it can give you a bit of a shock if you're not careful. However, that may well be down to my workmanship and the tool using it (i.e.: me), and not the tool itself… |

I don't use many, but when I do, I get them from here facebook.com/leadbearstufts His business card is brilliant, btw, the reverse reads: "Leadbear's Tufts are handmade in Australia by Leadbear … on Mrs leadbear's kitchen table … much to her annoyance. |
