Presented this stripped down version of Waterloo to my Y10 DT class today -they love this sort of thing!!!

It all started when I found out none of them had heard of the 'Charge of the light Brigade' -the rest is , er.. history.

…and yes they are FPW troops but nobody called me on it :)

Lovely – very different from my history classes :-)

We were talking today about the importance of giving youngsters experiences as you never know the moment that one will just have their button pressed and have a hobby for life ….. be that photography, reading or wargaming or whatever.

Good that instead of taking your work home, you can take your home to work :-)

First point: no Prussians no victory!

Outstanding! Well done for the kidlings.

Was this a simple reenactment of events, or a game? If the latter, what rules/systems did you use?

As normsmith said, very different from the tedious examination of the Corn Laws and the Eastern Question of my history classes at that age. Bravo!

It was a very simple re-enactment with a very, very potted history since the Revolution with a load of stuff about the effects of roundshot (I know my audience…) In fact it went so well I did it again this morning with a Y7 class who also enjoyed it. There were no interruptions, no squabbling or any buffoonery -must be the power of the toy soldiers!!

What a great idea to be able to play history – and smart move for simplifying it for the kids :)
