My most talented friend JfePiriz, has painted this vignette using Oniria Miniatures' latest release: Merde!!. These figures are 36mm, but can mix perfectly with existing 28mm figures.
Hope you like it.

Bet I know what the Chasseurs were saying.

"Let us guess. We will do the dying and he will do the surrendering. Quelle merde….."

But only the last word carried across the field of battle

A bit like how it's always the pilot who gets the medal for the suicidal bombing run, never the rest of the crew.

Be honest folks – Cambronne surely expected to die – the fact that he did not is purely an interesting side bar to the event. Furthermore, had he given the choice to his men, what member of the guard would have been the first to step forward and surrender …

As I understand it, Cambronne was injured and captured by General von Alten as the last attack of the Middle Guard foundered. He never made the 'last square'. And, to give him his due, he never claimed to have said anything heroic. But as the man said when you have the facts and the legend, print the legend.

Lovely figures and fantastic paintwork as always

Artilleryman;

I certainly not a "scholar" on the incident, but I have never heard hint that Cambronne was wounded anywhere else but in the square by a canister ball. Have a source for the other account I can look up and read. I would be most interested.

It was Halkett who captured him.

And later he married an English woman.

When it is possible he may have muttered 'merde' …
