Fellow painters,

Please find attached the link to my latest efforts in getting it near to right for my 7th Hussars in French service for 1815. It's on the detailed side.

There was a previous publication from H&C on French hussars that should cover this. I'll check it tomorrow.

That Marbot's is dark blue may not help. There is at least one dark blue dragoon uniform on display in the Musee de L'armee that I'm pretty sure was not dark blue in '15.

Obviously green fades to blue in any UV light. Look in any model shop at box art after a couple of years in the window. Funny…I have seen his jacket many times in La M de l'Armee……..and remember it as very faded green. But that is surely because that is what I have expected to see! I admit every colour photo is a very unfaded blue. If the yellow did fade, the blue sure did not!

Looking at the Petard – Rigo volume on French light horse the table of colors exists for up to 1812. Fortunately he has drawn a plate for the 7th hussars in 1815 depicting the eagle bearer. Green dolman, grenn pelisse, red overalls, the green of the shako is much lighter than the other green. The overalls are interesting because everywhere else he depicts the overalls for the 7th as green but the pants with the hungarian knots as red, all in the earlier period, but here it's clearly the overalls and they are clearly red. The sabretache has an eagle in the middle, a small crown on top, and a small 7 underneath, all gold on a black.
