If you were sending multi-part plastic figures to a painting service, would you assemble the figures first?

* yes
* no, I would pay extra to have them assemble the figures
* no, I would expect them to assemble the figures at no cost

Yes I would.

Hlaven16 Jun 2015 6:04 p.m. PST

Yes. Especially since I like to be creative with poses and different heads.
I don't even want a unit of guys looking exactly like each other.

Syrinx016 Jun 2015 6:09 p.m. PST

Usually I am sending out something to be painted due to a time constraint, so I would prefer not to assemble the figures.

Yes, only way I have done it to date. Not worth the risk of doing otherwise.

Most figure sprues have so many choices, I can't see how anyone else would know how I want them.

Yes!

I have not been entirely happy with services gluing riders on horses, so I imagine gluing multi-part figures would be a bit of a mess. The only difficulty with gluing first is the extra, extra care it would require in packaging to survive the mail.

I would charge extra for assembly if asked to paint some. Victrix and Warlord multi-parters are right pain.

Old Contemptibles17 Jun 2015 8:01 a.m. PST

No. Why would I? It is part of the service. I provide detail instructions about what I want. I hate putting those things together. I only buy plastic if I can't find what I want in metal.

I have not recently used a painting service and never for plastics so cannot be sure if I'd assemble them first or not, but I would defiantly expect to pay extra if they were assembling them for me. Quite a bit too they can be tine consuming and fiddly to do properly.

You will no doubt be in for a big surprise if you don't.

Grimmnar18 Jun 2015 1:31 a.m. PST

I would check on it first. Some multipart kits make painting a pain. might affect overall price.

I dont know of any decent service that would freely put together multipart kits. It is a service. If someone knows of one let me know.
Hell, i dont know of a company that drills out barrels for free.

We never charge for assembly, and we like to think of ourselves as a decent service…

Karnophage18 Jun 2015 9:14 a.m. PST

It really is about the time it takes to assemble the plastic kits. It may take about half the time estimated for painting to assemble some of the more fiddly kits from GW or Wyrd. If a painting service is not charging for assembly of at least the Plastic kits they are losing money on the commission.

Agreed, assembly may be extra. My eyesight is such that I cannot assemble a model kit. Another reason to use only metal figs.
