Dear Editor, I was wondering why no banner to mark the 200th anniversary of Ligny, Napoleon's last victory? I trust that 18 June will be noted as the day in 860 when the Rus Vikings attack Constantinople? (all of above said in the best possible taste and with tongue firmly in cheek of course) Kind regards and Vive l'Empereur! Alan |

Hey what about Quatre Bras! Without the Dutch stand things may well have been different 2 days later! Could have been a banner for both battles actually. I agree though banner today a bit obscure… |

Ligny has a big problem. The French are strangely reluctant to celebrate defeating the combined German armies, but would instead prefer to fantasize about beating the English. |

'Fantasise about beating the English' do you mean the 'Fantasize about beating the Allied Army supported by the Prussians'? |

Where is Peter when we really need him? Oh? Really? Never mind. |

We'll be staging both Waterloo and Ligny games at the Joy of Six on July 19th. Both will be on huge tables and features thousands and thousands of little men. thejoyof6.co.uk |

No Captain, I meant what I said. The French still see it as an 'English' victory because the idea of being beaten by the Germans has so many other bad connotations. That and it does not fit with their 'European' family ideas. Just look at the fiasco over the Belgian 2 Euro coin. |

One more day then we can move on. And I can get back to playing Waterloo without the political overtones… |

I was wondering why no banner to mark the 200th anniversary of Ligny, Napoleon's last victory? Because nobody asked the wonderful, volunteer banner maker? TMP link |

my German colleagues (the ones interested in history anyway) are always very pleased when someone references the Prussian contribution in 1815; once they realise you know a bit about Alte Fritz and theyre your chums for life. |
