Which company makes the best Napoleonics in 15mm scale?

JD Lee15 Jun 2015 5:26 p.m. PST

Campaign Game Miniatures and AB.

abelp0115 Jun 2015 5:42 p.m. PST

Blue Moon & ABFigures.

daler240D15 Jun 2015 6:16 p.m. PST

even though they are 18mm…

Define 15mm

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP15 Jun 2015 6:25 p.m. PST

More than 12mm but less than 20mm.

Who asked this joker15 Jun 2015 6:26 p.m. PST

Minfigs 2nd generation. Very deep range. Easy to paint. Classic miniatures.

I'm a big fan of the larger-sized interpretations of 15mm (a.k.a. 18mm), so another vote for a tie between AB and Blue Moon. AB wins on quality of sculpting, but Blue Moons are a lot more durable.

Nick Bowler15 Jun 2015 7:33 p.m. PST

How to start a fist fight on TMP -- ask about Napoleonics rules or figures!!!

Personally, I prefer the old glory figures.

vtsaogames15 Jun 2015 7:45 p.m. PST

I'm with DWilliams, but Old Glory are good.

AB horses are the best.

Three may be better sculpted, but for me, the mix of poses, quantity in the bag and value for dollar I have to (and did) go with Old Glory. I must like them because 90% of what I have is OG15s.

1968billsfan15 Jun 2015 8:51 p.m. PST

"15mm" has to be something that you can put on the table, and maybe even in the same unit as the classic minifigs. The "18mm" bigger figures are another size, just like 10mm, 6mm, 25mm and 28-30mm.

JezEger15 Jun 2015 10:25 p.m. PST

Define 'best'.
Price
Range
Number of poses
Cast quality
Paintability for large armies (probably why you're using 15mm)

OLD Glory.

Rrobbyrobot15 Jun 2015 11:44 p.m. PST

I like Old Glory, but I also like Minifigs. But I would not mix the two…

artaxerxes16 Jun 2015 2:05 a.m. PST

I have a mix of Old Glory, AB, Battle Honours and Alain Touler. Works for me.

Supercilius Maximus16 Jun 2015 2:43 a.m. PST

AB for sculpting quality and accuracy.

Minifigs for sheer breadth of coverage (and a second vote for the 2nd Gen figures over the current range).

Old Glory for price.

(I'd give Blue Moon a much higher rating if they'd sort out those goose-stepping/chorus-line horses.)

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP16 Jun 2015 2:52 a.m. PST

Definitely AB.
We others only may try to achive this high standards.

nsolomon9916 Jun 2015 4:22 a.m. PST

For me its easily AB and the proof is simple – look at the frequency with which well painted AB figures are mistaken for 25/28mm figures.

I also have Old Glory, Battle Honours, Essex, Lancashire and others mixed throughout my collection filling holes that AB couldn't fill over the last 25 years. Gradually I am replacing all but the Old Glory with AB, as Tony Barton completes the ranges.

Vincent is right about the AB horses, I used them years ago to mount my Old Glory Confed of the Rhine contingents and they transformed the look of the Old Glory cavalry (used the frankly appalling little OG horses as casualties and markers)

marshalGreg16 Jun 2015 6:37 a.m. PST

Sorry but perhaps not a good question the way it is present Chief!
As JezEger presents, there needs to be more parameters defined.
for example
Who makes the best 15mm with animation and depth of range ( I would vote for Old OG)
or like who makes a good range of depth, well portioned and easy to paint.( I would vote for AB/BH)

@nsolomon99- so that is why I can't get the AB horses these days…. for my AB carabiniers I acquired from another collection who used some other mfg lt. cav. horses to fill in for some of the unit's troopers and they look like late 1812 "unfortunate chaps" riding captured cossack ponies! Not so good for my 1815 game
;-p!

@ Eureka USA
- pls restock your AB horses and bring them to Historicon. I will surely be purchasing many!

AB for me.

I have some of the current generation Minifigs French in my collection and those in full dress are taller than the AB French skirmishing in greatcoats and shorter than those in uniform coats. I don't mix them in the same units.

Personal logo miniMo Supporting Member of TMP16 Jun 2015 11:19 a.m. PST

"Makes" is present tense, so rules out Minifigs 2nd Gen and Heritage.

Of current makes, Old Glory & select Battle Honours (some nationalities are good, others not).

The assorted Heroic 18 lines have gone beyond scale creep and should now count as 20mm.

britishlinescarlet216 Jun 2015 1:52 p.m. PST

AB are superb but CGM come a close second and are cheaper.

Fredloan16 Jun 2015 7:56 p.m. PST

AB by far are the best sculptures

Gratian16 Jun 2015 10:38 p.m. PST

AB…however the poses are quite limited compared to other ranges. My Wurttemberg and Saxon infantry divisions are all marching at shoulder arms, for example.

Controversial, but AB may be a bit boring in that respect?

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP17 Jun 2015 2:28 a.m. PST

Not at all.
This is exactly what we need for wargaming.

von Winterfeldt17 Jun 2015 4:29 a.m. PST

AB and Sho Boki

HussarSSI17 Jun 2015 4:41 a.m. PST

I agree with Artaxerxes as I also have I have a mix of Old Glory, AB, Battle Honours. Works as he says for me.

JD Lee17 Jun 2015 8:57 a.m. PST

AB are really good but their bayonets always brake off the infantry!

Brownbear17 Jun 2015 12:55 p.m. PST

can cgm figures put in the saem unit as AB?

von Winterfeldt17 Jun 2015 1:30 p.m. PST

None of my AB infantry has a broken off bayonett

JD Lee17 Jun 2015 1:57 p.m. PST

I have mixed CGM and AB no problem.

Fredloan17 Jun 2015 10:36 p.m. PST

I'd say maybe 1 out of 50 ABs has a weak bayonet. I add some super glue to it for strength before I do anything to the figure. Never seems to be a problem.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP18 Jun 2015 2:38 a.m. PST

I have one broken AB bayonet. But this was broken before I get the figure.
No bayonets broken when gaming and I move my figs through grabbing from bayonets. AB bayonets are big and sturdy.

Eclipsing Binaries18 Jun 2015 4:17 p.m. PST

Sho Boki does some great 15mm Napoleonics. I just got some of his new Austrian cavalry and they're great.

;)

JD Lee19 Jun 2015 2:13 p.m. PST

I will try the super glue suggestion.
