Do any manufacturers make 40mm four round clips?

picture

I need some loose clips in 1/100 or any scale close enough to that to be workable. The wife's in the midst of a 15mm Flames of War M42 Duster.

Not aware of any, and given their size, I doubt it.

You could make them yourself though, with 0.6 – 0.8mm styrene rod that you sand to a point, and taper a little with fine sandpaper.

Then glue on a few, thin plastic strips, for the clips, and you're good to go.

Sounds complicated, but it really isn't that difficult, with a little time and practice.

I've made 1/600th scale droptanks using this method, before, for aircraft.

Use fine, 200 – 600 grit sandpaper.

Surprised the FOW Duster doesn't come with them.

Another option would be pins/needles of the appropriate diameter, inserts into some thin, hollow, styrene tubing. That might be easier, if they are about the right size. Perhaps grinding the tips off a little, to make them more round.

It may turn out to be a DIY project. The Duster has some loaded in the feed rollers, but the ready ammunition bins are empty

Tips of round toothpicks, cut off and glued together?

HistoryPhD16 Jun 2015 8:29 a.m. PST

I looked at toothpicks, but they're way over scale. I think the best bet is very thin plastic or wooden rods

If the toothpicks are too big, try this: Put one end in an electric drill. Run the other end lightly over a sheet of sandpaper. You can just tape the sandpaper to the table. You can try holding the sandpaper between your fingers too, squeezing it together to make the pointed shell nose. It helps if you can mount the drill in a vise and lock the trigger.

Well worth a try. Thanks

Could you make a mold by pressing the ones in the kit into plasticine then melting some white metal to cast your own?

They would need some cleaning up but I expect you could get acceptable results after a few false starts.

Scratch building as described above is doable – but rather labour intensive.

From looking at the way they stowed the rounds – I'd say you could get way with just using very fine copper wire glued piece by piece into the ammo bins before the final wash is applied. If you put the glue where the thicker end is supposed to be then they would I'm sure look like they should.

The kit has a few rounds molded into the feed rollers, so there's no way to remove them and make a mold. I think brass rod of the appropriate gauge will be the answer

Yeah – that's what I figured. Good luck. I hope your wife appreciates your efforts!
