I have 6 2'x2' pink insulation boards I've painted to use as a game board. After having problems with them sticking together during storage, I coated them with Elmer's glue (PVA). I took them out of the attic to get ready for some games I am running in 2 weeks and there are bubbles on 5 of the 6 boards. This is presumably an effect of the heat on the glue, as I stored them in the same place last summer and this didn't happen.. Most of them are from penny to nickel size. They are flexible.

Any ideas on how to fix them other than cutting the bubbled sections out and repainting?

Poke the bubbles with a needle, see if they will flatten again?

Did you peel off the thin plastic before coating? If not, it could be peeling now.

I would often score with a knife before gluing and painting my boards. Heat may have something to do with it as well.

Thanks for the suggestions. I made a small hole on the edge of one with a sewing needle and was able to deflate and smooth it out. I'm going to try this with the larger ones next in hopes it will be at least a temporary solution. Depending on how it lasts, when I have more time I will strip the areas and repaint.

Now to find a new storage area.

One of my friends suggested cutting a small incision in the edge of the bubbles and injecting some PVA in, then smoothing it down to help it reattach. I will experiment with that as well.
