In my family we play a game called 'Eskimo Roulette', which my Dad picked up in the PO mess of HMS Eskimo. Each player has 3 matchsticks and the game is played with 3 poker dice (marked 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace). Each player takes turns to throw the dice. For every Queen he passes one match to the left, for each King he passes one to the right. Each Ace allows one to be put into the centre, and thus out of play. Where he has a choice (e.g. he has one match left and throws a King and a Queen) he can chose. The aim of the game is to avoid being the person to put the last match in the centre (i.e. no winner, only a looser) as they have to pay for the next round of drinks. Just a little bit of RN lore. And a fun little game that requires no thinking! Nick |

Sounds like a variation of 'Put and Take', played with a six sided spinner, players put in or take out cash from a central kitty as instructed by the spinner result. Play is concluded when work/sleep interferes or the kitty is all won. It goes back a long way, and was played in all three services I believe, along with 'Uckers' (a Ludo variant), and Crown and Anchor. |
