"Birkebeinerne was the name for a rebellious party in Norway, formed in 1174 around the pretender to the Norwegian throne, Eystein Meyla. The name comes from the fact that the rebels were so poor that they made their shoes of birch bark. BIRKE- BEINERNE movie will tell the story they're most famous for: they escorted the two-year-old Haakon Haakonsson, an heir to the Norwegian throne (the secret son of the dying king whom half of the kingdom wants to kill and two men are trying to protect), to safety from Østerdalen to Trondheim, a long and perilous journey through treacherous snowy mountains and forests. Haakon IV later on became the longest ruling king of Norway with 46 year long rule known as their Golden Age!"
