For stands to be used with multiple figures, do you prefer straight sides or beveled (sloping) sides? |

I use steel bases so it's pretty much straight only… |

I use sloping edges, makes things so much easier. |

Beveled looks more "finished" to me. I don't pick up stands by the base though. |

… I don't pick up stands by the base though. Please don't tell me you pick them up by the figure! |

Agree a bevel looks more finished. Individual figure bases (slot bases) are beveled. So when I make any kind of custom base out of wood or plastic, I bevel for a matching look. Just takes a few passes with a wood rasp or file and if necessary finishing swipes with a sanding block or emery board. |

I use steel stands, so I'm forced to use straight, but I would prefer beveled. |

Thin as possible, so straight – but about 1mm high. If it was beveled it would be a razor. |

Beveled at top is fine, but completely beveled like GW plastic bases are too difficult to pick up cleanly. |

I avoid beveled bases as they look like pedestals, preventing the bases from blending into the table surface. I use vinyl floor tiles, two pieces stuck together (flat, maybe 2mm thick), textured, and sealed. To each their own -- your table, your figures, your choice. Cheers! |

Straight sides, and the thicker the better. All the easier to pick them up with. If you want to frame your figures, just edge the bases black. But as above, each to their own. |

If you mean the gently curved sides that sweep down from the terrain detail to the table edge in a graciously curving arc… Whoever invented those things should **g die. |

I bevel the top edge of my MDF bases. I think it looks good. I'm refurbishing some Napoleonics and will rebase on slope sided square plastic bases a la GW if I can ever get hold of enough of them. I have some figures based on coins. Part of my enthusiasm is as a collector, and so I like to have something of everything – scales, styles, basing etc. – rather than everything the same. Phil |

Flat steel bases. I want the base to disappear. |
