You bought a game. Something isn't quite making sense.

How do you prefer figuring it out?

1: Go to a general wargames forum.

2: Go to a forum or mailing list for the specific game or company.

3: Email the writer directly.

4: Download an FAQ

5: Wait for a new version

6: What does he know anyways? Just make something up.

7: I'm a special snowflake.

First stop is a forum search here but I find an awful lot of help and guidance from the BGG board game geek site aswell.
Also a good place to find cheat sheets and reference charts to make gaming easier.

Find out the designer's phone number, and call him at home at 11.30 on a Friday night.

Happened to me once.

Ask about it on TMP.

0. First, and foremost, clear, unambiguously written rules, wherever, and whenever possible.

Mako

"Shots may receive a +1 bonus to hit, except in certain circumstances"

The rules then proceeded to never explain what circumstances did or did not get the bonus.

Actual example from a game I read many years ago. Oddly never made it to our table :-)

A lot of what is above

But will also ask fellow gamers I am trying the rules with – Occasionally deciding on a temporary solution to finish a game and then looking for an answer – or perhaps a new rule set

StarfuryXL513 Jun 2015 9:41 p.m. PST

Ask about it on TMP.

And get half a dozen different interpretations and/or best guesses, plus a few suggestions about other games systems you should try instead.
