I've got a hankering to paint up some German & RN ships for some GQ3 bashing about and I was wondering if I could get some recommendations for histories of the RN in WW2.

Thanks much!
Tom

The Battle for Norway link or link

HITLER STRIKES NORTH: The Nazi Invasion of Norway and Denmark, April 9, 1940 link

The Battle of Denmark Strait: A Critical Analysis of the Bismarck's Singular Triumph I see this at Halfprice Books

Do you want surface ship battles? If big ships then there is only Graf Spee/Bismarck/North Cape plus the Norway campaign that has some interesting actions

I don't know how well GQ3 handles Schnellboot/MBT actions

Most of the RN's surface actions were in the Mediterranean

Oh I won't let a little thing like history get in my way :) I'm more interested in capabilities so I can do "what ifs" then fighting historical battles.

The Med is a fantastic theatre to game, from battleships to aircraft, cruisers to coastal forces. It has it all.

Correlli Barnet's " Engage the Enemy More Closely" is a complete history of the RN in WWII and highly recommended. I saw a copy on Amazon just now for .75c!!!

What was the presence of the RN in the Pacific in WW2 between the Battle of the Java Sea and 1945?

Sebastien's spot on with Engage the Enemy More Closely: it's my touchstone for WW2. Good political and strategic background, thou for the details of specific battles you need theatre-specific works – even at 750+ pages PQ17 only takes up a couple of pages if I remember rightly as there's so much to go in

And sorry – Dark Knight's right too! The Med is a fantastic theatre with loads of actions from light forces through to fleet and carrier ops.
