Well that most likely why their are so many Russians in London :) just returning the favour I guess :D agree fascinating and like the idea of the Varangians having all those Poms in it, can't wait for the TV series.

So if the Anglo-Saxons were given permission by the emperor to carve out a territory in the Crimea, who were the peoples that they had to fight? Were the "natives" of the Crimea at that time descendants of the Khazars, Pechenegs & Cumans? It could make for some interesting wargaming, late Anglo-Saxons versus Khazar types.

A mixture, surely. Not all the inhabitants of the Crimea were light horse archers.
