I received some mounted plastic 15mm infantry that I wish to rebase. I was wondering what would be a good glue remover so I can remount the figures? I was thinking acetone (finger nail polish remover) but do not know if it would damage the figure? What do you folks use? Thanks for the help in advance. |

First thing to try is to freeze them. This makes some glues brittle and can break the joint. If they are styrene to styrene using plastic cement nothing will break the joint, you are left with carving of the base. x42 |

Acetone will dissolve the paint. Freezing and then immersing in very hot water is the method I use. |

Use an exacto knife to pop them off. |

If they are based on wood or card stand them in water for 24 hours. The bases (and some of the glue) will peel off. Remove any remaining glue with a large course file. If they are based on metal try x42brown's freezer trick. If based on plastic and plastic cement was used to glue them down trim the base as close as you can to the figures' original bases with tin snips and use a large course file to remove the rest (put the file on your modelling table and rub the figures up and down it). |

Acetone will work on superglue-type adhesives but as already pointed out it will remove paint so "popping" is a better option. This is not well known but if it is a plastic-to-plastic solvent join then Testors Easy Lift Off will usually work (unless a ton of glue was used), but again it will fetch paint off too. |
