The premise of this game is having two identical tables, set with lots of fields and hills and woods, with a screen between the two so players on one table cannot see the other. One player operates the Tiger and the others, three players in our case have one Sherman each. The umpire stands so he can see both tables and adjudicates who can see who. As targets appear to players the umpire places them on their table and vice versa.

It was an absolute blast, the paranoia amongst the Sherman players was fun to watch. Moving in an apparently empty terrain, waiting for the shot you know may be just around the next hedgerow.

When It was my turn to play the Tiger, I changed to having two Mk IV panzers. When a tank was first sighted the umpire placed a Tiger as usual, when destroyed changing it for a what it really was. Then informing them to continue their mission.

Looking forward to playing this again.

A double blind completely eliminates the omniscient element known as "Player Knowledge." It's much more difficult to run and can require expensive terrain (you need two of everything). But the reward it worth it. Bravo to your group.

Any time someone asks "would gamers make good generals" I respond: no, because they are used to having more information probably than any general in history ever had – even about their own forces….

Just out of interest, what rules were you using?

I've done similar things in umpired WW2 games (US players vs German umpire)….

Used tigers initially regardless of type – and once had a real Tiger 2 with an inoperable main gun…

Player reactions are great!
