Can anyone explain the armor rules a bit for Mein Panzer? |

I've played this game a lot. The rules are fast playing and detailed without being overly detailed. Tanks have an armor value for each side, but no detailed hit locations. They have an Armor Piercing value based on your weapon. To hit you roll a d20 and have a target number based upon range, vehicle movement and size, the accuracy of the gun and other details. If you hit, you then roll to determine damage.-Basically you subtract armor from the AP of the firing weapon. That gives you a "Kill Value" You roll another D20 and look at the result on the Kill Table. You can do anywhere from 2 damage to immobilized or no effect. Most tanks are killed with 1 hit. Only big guys like Tigers and such take 2 hits. Tanks tend to blow up quickly in this game, because most armor values are greater than defensive vallues, so if you actually hit there is a good chance for penetration and damage. |

Quick example of the kill table. Sherman has a front armor of 9. The 75mm gun has a AP of 13, so 4 over armor. a Kill Value of 4 on the table would do 2 hits on 1-4, 1 hit on 5-14, Immobilized on 15-16, and suppressed on 17-19. 20 has no effect. So, if for some reason a sherman were to shoot another sherman, if it hit, it would kill on a roll of 1-14. A Tiger I on the other hand has an AP of 14 and front armor of 12, which means it is much harder for a Sherman to kill that. I've often though of changing some of the tables to end up with more immobilized results, but their explanation is that a kill is not necessarily a destroyed tank, but rather a tank that is destroyed or combat ineffective. |

Gents: Hello and thanks for asking! Landori is correct on all counts. All tank kills are considered "mission kills". That is to say the crew either bailed or there is enough damage to make the vehicle inoperable. Our immobilization percentage is the extreme chance that the vehicle while not mobile can still be effective at it's job. We do have a brew-up rule that truly shows a vehicle has received a catastrophic hit. But most players simply put "smoke" on a vehicle that has been taken out of action.
