Wow! Peopled flocked to the Pedion Kickstarter, and it got funded in just 55 hours! Of course, the fun it's just starting! If you have followed my posts in pedionterrain.com, you know that I love to design new things and expand on ideas; so, it's time for Stretch Goals. But nothing will happen if more people don't support us:

Campaign started on May 27th and will last until the 1st of July 2015

Pedion is a Terrain System; a way for wargamers, role-players, and modelling hobbyists to recreate any battlefield* they wish to play on, without sacrificing aesthetics or requiring much room for storage. The principle of Pedion is that the board will consist of a number of terrain "tiles", that is, square pieces each depicting specific terrain features: open plains, roads, rivers, forests, hills, crops etc. The tiles are 30x30cm and only 1cm thick (1'x1'x0.4") and they connect to each other without any restriction on orientation. They are pre-painted with realistic features while still practical for miniature movement and combat. By combining the tiles, the players can form multiple layouts, covering most table sizes. The tiles are very lightweight, durable and take minimal space.
*ped·i·on, noun \ˈpedēən, from Ancient Greek πεδίον ("plain, field, flat surface"), πεδίον μάχης = battlefield

We have already unlocked the first Stretch Goal, to produce different themes of the Pre-painted Tiles, and specifically a Winter theme and a Sand/Desert theme. This Stretch goal will allow supporters to choose to have their Reward Set of Pedion tiles painted in a different theme than the original "Spring Green" presented in most pictures. The next Stratch Goal unlocks the Crops/Orchard Tile type!

Hope you like Pedion and, in case you don't have the time to create your own board, support us and get a Pedion board for your own!

Wrong link up top? pedionterrain.blogspot.com ?

Khadrin09 Jun 2015 11:03 p.m. PST

Hmm just a silly question. Will it be possible to buy singles instead of kits in the future ? Oh and how much will they cost if there is already an estimate?

DarthPanic10 Jun 2015 8:57 a.m. PST

@Khadrin Yes, although expansion sets are at a better price. Also, there will be a monthly subscription service where individual tiles will be send to members. As for prices, they vary. You can see some single tile prices right now at the add-on section of the Kickstarter campaign, although the prices are lower than retail: link

And the correct website address is pedionterrain.com thank you Emckinney

Two Stretch Goals reached, another just unlocked! Pedion Battlefields are getting better every minute!

The Crops/Orchard tile type is available!

Also, since we reached 130 backers, every physical reward gets one or more extra free magnetic trees!

And there are the first images of the Desert themed alternative Pedion tiles:

These look fantastic but I have some concerns about the ability to quickly manufacture these in quantity. The examples seen so far appear to be one of custom models.

Also, the Greek postal service is one of the worst in Europe. Will you be using couriers for better security?

Khadrin16 Jun 2015 7:31 a.m. PST

Come on ! Be nice with our greek friends, it's been a long time since Philippides was their postman.

Mute Bystander16 Jun 2015 8:41 a.m. PST

Delivery issues that are questioned should be addressed.

Shieldwolf Miniatures16 Jun 2015 11:04 a.m. PST

@Legatushedilus
We are not affiliated in any way with Pedion but I have to interfere on the comment regarding the Greek postal service system.
I don't know where you got this idea, but we have been professionally using it for almost 3 years now and have mailed literally thousands of parcels to over 40 countries worldwide; you know how many parcels we lost in all this time? Zero. Those few which were returned were messed up by foreign postal services, not the Greek one.
On top of that, we have been repeatedly complimented for the speed of delivery.
Just saying… :-)

On topic now, the ability to deliver large quantities should be addressed and is to be seen, but 130 backers doesn't look so hard from our point of view. Looking good so far, best of luck to all :-)

Khadrin16 Jun 2015 1:39 p.m. PST

Mute Bystander, I do agree with you, delivery issues should be adressed being from a country postal service or a brand/seller but only if they do exist for a fact. Rumours are that just, rumours. So far, I experienced in the past twice problems with a US delivery company, it doesn't make US postal service one of the worst in the world. It's always so easy to flame on forums …

DarthPanic20 Jun 2015 11:07 a.m. PST

Hi to all! On the issues Legatushedlius raises:
a) Mass production – Please to take the time to read the extensive details on our production schedule and business plan in the Risks & Challenges section, and even more in the FAQ section of the Kickstarter main page. But in short, yes, there is extensive planning to tackle any number of orders this KS will bring, espaecially the estimate of 150-200 orders that seem to be the final number. The "main" problem is the Phase C of our production – the hand-painting phase- where experts have been contacted to be paid for full-time involvement.
b) I disagree, and whole-heartily agree to Shieldwolf: Greek postal service is one of the best, not the worst in EU. Low prices and excellent service. I have never lost a package, while ordering from abroad the last 10 years, nor have they ever misplaced or delayed a package I have send to ebay buyers.
HOWEVER, to answer the issue that also MuteBystander raises, we do aim to achieve better distribution deals for places with lots of backers. This will 99% happen for the EU and quite probably for the states. The purpose of not charging shipping right now, is to send all the packages together by transit, and let a professional distributor like Amazon, Amazon.co.uk or amazon.de do the local work, thus potentially halving overall costs.
Hope that I addressed your issues :)
George

Mute Bystander21 Jun 2015 6:27 p.m. PST

Khadrin,

I was flaming no one. I asked that the subject raised be factually addressed, not dismissed out of hand or left to non-specific comments. That was my intent and I stand by it.

If I had the money right now I would participate based on the posts of Shieldwolf Miniatures and DarthPanic. Rumors are bested answered by facts and I am satisfied that the Geek postal service provides exemplary service.

I have drooled over the KS images several times. Bottom line is that I do not have the expendable income right now. I can wish all day long but not paying my bills would literally result in my losing my clearance and being fired. My wife would not understand… wink

Shieldwolf Miniatures23 Jun 2015 9:58 a.m. PST

I did not perceive any flaming from @Mute Bystander, on the contrary delivery issues -and any issues for that matter- should be addressed, I concord. Your reasoning after is even more clarified and you do well to stand by it, I would too.

Being a manufacturer these past years however and used to deal with P&P we have much better knowledge than a common eBay buyer for example or an occasional sender, heck we use it daily! :-)
That's why I interfered when @legatushedilus posted this totally wrong information that unjustly discredits the Postal system we use.

As for the wife understanding… it happens I guess to a lot of us! :-D

Sablefox25 Jun 2015 4:04 p.m. PST

To get us back on track… I am really glad I found this excellent terrain system. It has got all of the base terrain types you are likely to want, and the finishing, for example on the rivers, is superb. The fact it interlocks magnetically and you can add magnetic accessories like trees, walls and rocks is great.

It is well worth checking this KickStarter out: you may regret it if you don't: link

Last Four Days to get your PEDION Modular Terrain!

Project page: link

It seems that after hitting the infamous "mid-campaign" sluggishness, the Pedion Kickstarter campaign managed to reach the £25,000.00 GBP pledge sum, unlocking the Pond/OxbowLake/Marsh Tiles.
Now, it is the last four (4) days of the campaign – for Pedion's to become even better and for you to get an even greater variety of battlefields. So, if you were planing on pledging, now is the time!
While Pedion will be available through our e-shop after the Kickstarter is fulfilled (this is the project's aim after all), backers will
-pay less that the retail prices, both for tile sets and for the subscription service
-get free stuff like trees, walls etc
-receive their sets much sooner
-help Pedion become even better.

Pond and Widening River Tile, with Marsh Upgrade

The two tile types are the Pond (small lake) Tile and the Widening River Tile; both tiles can be converted to include marshland!

With the corresponding add-on, you can clip on and off swamp surface, creating either a partial marshland on a river side, or a full marsh on top of your lake:

Next Stretch Goal: SciFi Themes and Crater Tile types

Although we are nearing the end, there is a number of Stretch Goals that we may unlock yet!
The closest one, on terms of pledge total, is the availability of two new ground variations when we reach £28,000.00 GBP, both more suitable to a Science Fiction setting: the "Red Planet" and the "Grey Wastes". These new variations will also unlock a new type of Tile: the Crater tile.

Next Social Stretch Goal: FREE Walls for everyone if we reach 165 Backers

Since the number of 180 backers may seem a bit far-fetched, I do not want to end without another freebie :) So, let us reach 165 Backers first, and everyone with a physical reward will also receive some free walls!

Future stuff…

We may never reach it, at least on this Kickstarter, but I wanted to give you a glimpse of what I had in stock for the SciFi/Urban Stretch Goal: a road tile upgrade with luminated roadsides… Check the early prototype – LED lighting on 12V Battery

So what are you waiting for? The time is now – pledge, spread the word, bring your friends in and get the last terrain you will ever need!

Kickstarter page: link

How about some Science Fiction Battlefields?
By surpassing the £25,000.00 GBP Stretch Goal, backers may order their Set and Add-on tiles in two new variations, suitable to a more futuristic/apocalyptic setting: the "Red Planet" and the "Grey Wastes". The new paint/texture variations can be applied to all existing tile types, and they Unlock two new tiles: the Impact Crater and the Artillery Craters types. You can even "fill" them with some liquid, like water or lava… !

The New EPIC, Kickstarter only, Pledge!
Since we have unlocked a lot of new features (and probably will unlock more), we introduced a brand new pledge level, a great "get-them-all" reward for the 15 first among you! So, as a Kickstarter only Set, you may now get a huge 8'x4' Battlefield Set at £500.00 GBP, and it includes 32 Pedion tiles:

5 Plain Grass tiles,
4 Broken Ground tiles,
2 Forest tiles + 12 magnetic trees,
1 Badlands tile + 4 magnetic Rock Formations,
4 Road tiles (2 straight, 2 turns),
8 Painted River tiles (1 turn, 1 Widening turn, 6 straight),
1 River Ford tile,

2 Crops/Orchard Tiles + 8 magnetic Fruit trees,
1 Pond tile,
1 Swamp upgrade + 1 magnetic Willow, 1 River marshland upgrade,
1 Artillery craters tile,

To this you may add 3 extra free trees and 1 free rock formation, as well any other SG freebies. So. do you have the space? For this is the wargaming board that includes EVERYTHING up to the £28.00 GBPK Stretch Goals! Full of features, either for 8'x4' epic battles or for multiple smaller configurations. Do not expect a photo of this monster, I do not have such a big table :)

Those SciFi/Urban tiles
The next Stretch Goal is tantalizingly close! At £30,000.00 GBP backer will be able to add a number of tile types more suited to an Urban environment: either SciFi, Modern or Gothic, perfect for wargaming in in such an enviroment.

The Urban tiles are mostly re-designs of the main Road tiles, with added texture and road options.

WIP: Urban tile, with Aluminum Hoverway road, Illuminated roadsides* and Plastisteel grid texture (fully magnetic)

Who wants some Coastline?
And there is a new Stretch Goal as well! Many people love the idea of playing Sea battles or making D-Day scenarios come through. Pedion will deliver, if we reach £32,000.00 GBP: we will unlock Tile designs for:

Sea/Water Tiles
Straight Coastline/Lakeside
Curved Coastline/Lakeside
River Delta

What are you waiting for? Come and help us make everything true!
