I am looking for a good set of rules that can be played in 3 or 4 hours. The smallest unit of maneuver will be platoon sized elements. |

If I am not mistaken, in Battleground WWII the smallest maneuver element is squad-sized, rather than platoon. |

He might mean Battlefront WW2. It is a platoon-sized plus element game. |

He might mean Battlefront WW2. It is a platoon-sized plus element game. In my copy of Battlefront WW2, most of the maneuver elements are companies (especially infantry), though some of the vehicles can also manoeuvre as platoons. Then there is also a company called Battlefront that manufactures a WWII game where manoeuvre elements tend to be platoons… |

"Look, Sarge, No Charts: WWII" uses bases that represents platoons, and players command battalions. We routinely run 6 player convention games that finish in 4 hours. |

Mentioned most often at that scale are Blitzkrieg Commander, Spearhead, and Fist Full of TOWS 3. GHQ models has a ruleset that is free for download you might want to check out also. |

CavScout, you may want to be more specific about what you mean as "maneuver element." That phrase gets interpreted differently. Platoon-sized maneuver elements could mean either 1) each base is a platoon or 2) each base is 1 to 10 soldiers and you form squads and platoons from multiple bases. |

@ Kelly, Roger that. The based figs will represent a platoon of vehicles or Infantry. Thanks for all the suggestions so far as well. |

In that case, my personal recommendation is Command Decision: Test of Battle. I like the command control rules (company orders issued each turn) and morale rules (pin, shaken, disrupted). Not everyone likes the rules though as the command and morale rules often (and rightfully IMO) outweigh the effects of firepower. A company of Stuarts could defeat a company of King Tigers, not likely, but possible if you define "defeat" as "I made the Tigers halt or backup for a turn or two." The Stuart's success would be fleeting, so take your success and RUN! 1" = 50yd or 100yd, 1 turn = about 30 minutes. Multiple players each maneuvering a battalion can conclude a game in 3-4 hours. |

Combat Command uses platoons as its atomic unit. Orders are generally issued to Companies but can be issued to a single platoon. A player commands a battalion sized battle group. Sequence of play is integrated so that all sides are doing something. Good for multi-player as you don't have to wait around for "your turn" or "your card" to come up. Simplistic or elegant mechanics depending on your view point made for Saturday afternoon games with several players not all of who have a Phd in World War II technical data. Available through WargamesVault. (Basic Game). TomT (self promoting…) |

What about Krieg ohne Hass for 1/300 scale? |

I will second Chris Palmer and Look Sarge. short playing time, easy to learn the basics, and I can see no issue with 1/285. |
