Apparently in order to annoy the French – link |
MaggieC70 | 09 Jun 2015 8:37 a.m. PST |
Maybe not so much to annoy the French but more to commemorate something important that happened in a country that did not even become a country called Belgium until 1830. And really, isn't the issuance of a coin or a stamp or any other bit of 1815-2015 memorabilia a big So What? It is quite true that the Allies won the battle of Waterloo, but history shows the Allies didn't win much else in the decades afterwards. OK, perhaps the Prussians--Bismarck managed to create a unified Germany on the second attempt. |

Now, how do I manage to get one over here? Suggestions, gentlemen? |

@MaggieC70 Given that millions of Europeans visit the Sunshine State every year surely you must know someone coming over soon? I would bring one over for you if I was coming this year but this is the first year in the last ten that I can't come over. |

Good for gallant little Belgium! I wonder if the French are aware of our £5.00 GBP commemorative coin featuring the Duke… |

Thanks, Jim, for the offer! I rounded up a couple of UK boys who are going to the battlefield--they promised to mail me one sometime in early July, or when they are actually available. Also found a site for the stamps, so I'm good to go. |

I wonder if the French are aware of our £5.00 GBP GBP commemorative coin featuring the Duke… Or our special 10-groat Agincourt commemorative coin due to come out in October. |
MaggieC70 | 10 Jun 2015 7:16 a.m. PST |
Agincourt was such a great victory, popular enough to inspire Shakespeare to write the St. Crispin's Day speech. Unlike Waterloo, however, Agincourt didn't end the Hundred Years' War, which the French won. One of those "win the battle, lose the war" scenarios. Still, a battle well worth commemorating…on a ten-groat coin, no less. Can't wait to get one of those! |
