Last Saturday (on D-DAY!) I played my first Bolt Action Game. It was an 800 points game Americans versus Germans in Normandy.

I play in 1/72 with lots of material from The Plastic Soldier Company but also Revell, Italeri, Waterloo1815 and Heller are frequently used to make my models.

Still lots of work to do but that's the fun about this hobby, it never stops Very Happy

The last year I did a whole lot of research on the internet and didn't stop saying 'wauw' all the time!

It's incredible to see all these models and scenery made by a lot of fellow gamers. Lots of you guys are real artists!

Ok here we go with some pictures in comic style (I really like this sort of AAR) of the first part of my first Bolt Action game. It's far from being good quality pictures but it gives an idea I think!

Great looking game. Did you leave ranges the same or cut them in half?

dice gunner08 Jun 2015 2:01 p.m. PST

Wow! Nice looking game. Who made the buildings and dirt road? Love the terrain.

War Panda08 Jun 2015 2:03 p.m. PST

Wow…brilliant terrain and just a fantastic job with the comic style report.

I love the "little details" on display (like the stacked wood pile)

Looking forward to more :)

Thank you guys for the fine comments!

@79thPA: no I didn't change the ranges. it works fine with 1/72. On the contrary it still stays a little bit too short in range for my feeling (24" as a maximum range 'to easily hit with a rifle' seems to be still too short in my opinion). Being from Belgium, we play in centimeters but I didn't change it, 6" is 15cm and so on…

@Dice Gunner: well I made everything myself with the exception of 2 houses (they're from Najewitz from Germany – they make wonderful resin houses that are easy to paint)
lasermodellbau.de
And the tiles are from Kallistra. they work well for the time being and are easy to transport but in the future I would like to make my own battleboards. (just keep on dreaming Burt…)
All the rest is scratch made. Like I said, I've surfed like a maniac on the internet wargamesites the past year and saw lots of wonderful things wich I'm trying to copy and give it my own touch.

@War Panda: Dear sir, I simply admire your work! I have a lot to learn and if my pictures were more high quality you would see that my miniatures are not that exceptionally paint, on the contrary. i prefer to make terrain, miniature soldiers are far from being my specialty. Looking forward seeing some extra work from you!!

Generally don't read ARs. I did like yours though.
Well done.

Joep12308 Jun 2015 6:08 p.m. PST

That was all very well done.
Haven't played Bolt Action in a while, really need to get back to it.
Thanks for posting.

Liked your article Burdie, very well done!

May I ask you , how you get the "Comic Book" panel look for your reports? Seeing your presentation has given me some ideas for a rule set I'm developing.

You can reach me here or at skipptrsn@aol.com

Hi Meladward23 and Joep123. Thanks for your post! It's nice to hear you liked my little story.

@Legends In Time Skip
The comic book style is something I saw in postings of other wargamers here on the miniatures page. I found a program which is very simple to use named: comic life.
You can use it 30 days for free. Afterwards a watermark will be on the prints unless you pay a contribution. I don't know how much they ask, but if it's reasonable I'm willing to pay for this. The program is very nice to work with. Try it out and you'll see for yourself.
Thanks for your nice comments – I'm always open for suggestions and hints.

Greetings, Burt

I am a little late in checking this out but fantastic work. I really like the comic style and the images are very clear. The story is well told. Excellent stuff!
