Came across these, original period film clips of the Battles around Tonkin, showing footage often attributed it appears mistakenly to Dien Bien Phu, what impressed me was the film quality. Anyway hope they are of use.

Love em Has become one of my top periods.

The credits show Jules Roy, is he the DBP Doctor/author?

Thanks John

Jules Roy would have to be the author, he wrote La Bataille de Dien Bien Phu but I don't think he was ever at DBP.

Doctor, there you would be thinking of Grauwin. link
He wrote J'étais médecin à Diên Biên Phu. I have the English translation Doctor at Dien Bien Phu, a very interesting book.

It is the very same Jules Roy that is the author of The Battle of Dien Bien Phu and the director of this film. He was a Press officer in Vietnam when the film was made but resigned his commisson in 1953.
