The idea of eliminating the Ultramodern Discussion Board has been mentioned several times in various threads, thus: I request a poll regarding whether or not TMP should continue to have an Ultramodern Discussion Board. Voting options would be as follows: A "YES" vote would support the continuation of the Ultramodern Discussion Board. A "NO" vote would support the elimination of the Ultramodern Discussion Board. |

Although I would support kyoteblue's suggestion. I, personally, think it's splitting fine hairs, but in the end it might do the most good for the most fellow TMPers. |

Splitting will just add to the argument churn, unfortunately. Keep it, but prevent cross-posting, so the rest of us can shut it off. |

If kept, UM Discussion should be ruthlessly edited for political content. It looks like something like that is in progress now. You don't have to doghouse anyone, but nuke the threads and the content. |

Yes, keep it going. Then I can keep it turned off and leave the loons to their politics. |

I vote for Modern politics board . I would not like to let my kids read the ultra modern board as it stands now, they may get the wrong interpretation of the world. Otherwise a pair of xenophobic Grey Knights will be added to my collection. Oh look they are saved, I just switched the board off. Job done. |

It's great to have. Don't like it/don't read it, etc. |

need to keep it so we can continue talking about the effect of climate change on military operations in the near future. |

What will splitting it accomplish ? Remember when Napoleonic History was split off Napoleonic Doscussion? The purpose of that move was to confine rudeness and personal attacks to one , and let rational discourse continue on the other. Now, who will admit that their motives are less than pure? What is the guarantee that "politics" will be confined to one board and "discussion" to the other? |

Hi John, "splitting it" is really the subject of my other poll thread, but regarding both of my poll threads, I am simply formally requesting what others have suggested in various other threads. I expect, offer, and guarantee nothing. I am predominately a modern gamer, I find that modern (including very modern) can be discussed in other forums without incident, but not here. I like sharing gaming exploits of and with others. I gain inspiration and entertainment from other people's efforts, and hope that others might gain some of the same from my own efforts. My other poll was offered in hope that maybe the sharing part mentioned above might increase with a separation of the boards. I offered this poll simply to bring to conclusion the calls that I have seen for closing the Ultramodern board. If it happens, so be it. I'll talk about very modern games on other forums then, I guess. I don't really know anything about what happened on the Napoleonic boards. I don't frequent them. I haven't played a Napoleonic game since 1982, don't expect to ever play one again. Just not my thing, not enough tanks. Motives? I like to build stuff, to play childrens' games with toy soldiers. I like my hobby. I like my hobby to be pleasant. I'd like it to be more so here. That is my motive. Guarantee? Well. they used to feed Christians to the lions or some such silliness in the coliseum, they stopped doing that. Things can change. Or not. Taxes and death. Anything else is an extra. |

There is a "Modern" forum that you can participate/visit/read without any problem.! Why you have to visit the "Ultramodern" Forum? What do you want to see there that you don't see in the Modern one?. Wasn't more simple than banner a whole forum were you can verify so many visits and comments than… you ignore it? As John has said… there were much more troubles in other forums (that maybe you never visit) that in Ultramodern. You see a dozen of people in the dawghouse?. I have seen triple of that number in a week relationed with those forums. The problem never is a Forum… the problem is some (very few) people who would managed bad in Ultramodern or in the Toy Discussion Forum! Ultramodern is very new in TMP… you have to give it time as it has happened with NSFW in his moment. Amicalement Armand |

Yes. The overly sensitive need to learn not to click on it, if it bothers them. I'm much more for eliminating all those annoying MVLockFile errors I've been getting this morning, on > 80% of the clicks I make when posting replies, or just trying to read various topics (happened again when I attempted to post this as well). |

"need to keep it so we can continue talking about the effect of climate change on military operations in the near future". Well, according to at least one, it is a greater threat than ISIS. Of course, I find that ridiculous, as I suspect do many others. |

Yes and No :-) Keep it as a miniature wargame-focused board and move Tango's military current affairs content to a "Tango's Blog" board or "Current Military Affairs" board. I understand why Bill and Tango think such content is relevant to modern miniature wargaming (I even agree that it is). Just as WWII gamers discuss issues such as Russian industrial production and Hitler's meddling in operational military decisions modern gamers discuss U.S. government acquisition snafus and how political considerations influence battlefield tactics (the "strategic corporal"). But there IS clear bright line between pure military current affairs posts and tabletop wargame post about related military affairs. All of this starts with holding the OPs accountable for their threads. If an OP simply posts a link about, for example, political influence on ROEs or maybe problems revealed during weapon system procurement then the thread goes ONLY in the "Current Military Affairs" board. To qualify as content for the tabletop-focused Ultra Modern the bulk of the content posted by the OP and the FOCUS of his comments on the content would have to be tabletop gaming. OK for Ultra Modern Board: How do you simulate restrictive ROEs in your modern games? What sort of game mechanic do you use? See this link for examples of restrictive ROEs. NOT OK for Ultra Modern Board: Soldier Chafe Under Restrictive Rules of Engagment. XYZ news has learned that soldiers recently returned from Bongonesia are upset over rules of engagement that they claim endanger their lives. <link to xyznews.com> The first example leads to discussions focused on game mechanics for tabletop modern games. The second examples leads to flame wars and dog housing over political commentary. NONE of this means that you start banning or DH'ing OPs for posting content to the wrong board. Moderators just move the thread to the correct board when members screw up. And we should thank the OP of THIS thread for raising the issue with such maturity and constructive comments. He's a better man the me as I had given up on this probelm. It's easy to whine about things we don't like and nice to see so many TMP'ers trying to make the place more valuable to the hobby. |

If it does go to a poll can it be fully advertised to potential voters and not just stuck in the poll-list, along with poll titles such as flatulent armies and Mrs Miggins pie mix, to be lost amongst the trivial and the bizarre. This um poll may have legs. |
