I have recently put together a couple of boxes of the Perry light cavalry (1450-1500), and this has left me with a good number of spare bits including arrow sacks, bows & crossbows protected with cloth for transport, bolt quivers and sallets. Previously I do also possess a bunch of barrels, a few chests, some spare handguns and a sack or two.

So in order to put all of these spare bits into some good use, I thought to use them as baggage for an ammo re-supply cart that could be placed on the battlefield to provide arrows, bolts, shot and/or gunpowder to near by units on the battlefield (as well as spare weapon or two to replace broken ones).

Granted, a lot of rulesets do not take ammo resupply into account, instead assuming that the units have sufficient amount of supplies to last the entire combat, though there are some exceptions, such as Medieval Warfare. However, it shouldn't be too difficult to write a few house rules for a scenario where one side has limited ammo in the beginning, but gets a resupply cart as reinforcements during the game. Or it could act as a scenario objective (a small group of carts trying to resupply a castle before an impending siege) or just used to decorate a baggage camp.

Another issue that I am pondering at the moment is what to use for the cart itself. I do have some spare wheels somewhere, so I could probably scratch-build a cart if I really wanted to, but I would prefer to buy a ready-made one (and a suitable horse).

Perrys do produce a very impressive supply wagon drawn by a four horse team, but I have a feeling that this would be rather unwieldy on the tabletop due to size:

Other options from them include the common cart (minus the wounded passengers) or the wicker sided cart:

Their wine cart is also an interesting option for providing relief for combatants on a hot summer day, but that is another issue…

Front Rank also produces a rather decent looking two-wheeled cart, but their draught horses are a bit too stocky for my tastes:

Any other ideas for nice looking small carts/wagons (or suitable baggage) that I have failed to take into account?

Old Glory make a range of carts; have Medieval characters (civilians) with them too. Ox though. Some of their other ranges have varoous Hussite and Tabor carts and probably some horse drawn somehere. Under the siege listing they also have two empty wagons, small and large. I think I also may have some old Essex ones somehere. [Impetus requires (for most armies) a baggage camp.]

They also have some horse drawn guns and guns on Burgundian carriages.

There are some mdf carts available. Warbases for example do some.

4Ground makes great laser-cut wood carts, easy to assemble, I have a cool half dozen for our RPG's.

I forgot Warlord does Wooden Carts too.

Thanks for the info, I will need to take a look at those.

However, I would prefer horse-drawn vehicles rather than ox-carts, which the Old Glory versions seem to be.

I have bought carts from Irregular Miniatures, they have a large range.

Mega-minis has/ had several small carts drawn by peasants and draft animals originally from metal magic.

What was the choice?

Back in July I could not decide between the various interesting options out there, so I postponed the decision.

Got back to it last week, and after reconsidering the options I got back to my original choice of the two Perry carts (common cart and wicker-sided cart). While not the most impressive choices, they seem reasonably small to make practical battlefield models (and are horse-drawn). Plus I can use the wounded models from the common cart to make some casualty counters.

I might later get some of the bigger wagons from various manufacturers to be used for building a larger baggage camp at the rear of the battlefield.

Besides the ammo carts I have been thinking of making some static ammo supply counters, simply by glueing a variety of items to a spare base. These counters could then be placed next to particularly well-stocked units at the beginning of the battle, indicating that they have brought up plenty of supplies to the position before the battle (maybe providing them with some advantage as long as they do not move).
