Consimworld seems to be offline at the moment frown

It's being slow, which is odd, but it does come up after a minute or so. It should improve shortly.

(Thanks for the heads up).

Update 10:30 EDT…working now.

Is it suitable for solo play?

Hi

Just ordered the game. Thanks

79thPA…Yes!

Takes a bit of learning, as morale is a determining factor and a few other concepts (German/Askari MGs can move and shoot on the same turn, Anglo/Indian MG units can move OR shoot).

But otherwise, very solitaire friendly, especially if you have Cyberboard/Vassal, etc., so you can leave it set up on your PC.

Hope that helps!

…and this from my partner, George Pearson:

Came home last night and was pleased to see a box that looked to be about the right size, Tanga-wise. Shooing the cats off, I opened it up and was genuinely thrilled. The box is compact and colorful, with a gorgeous cover that captures the heat and confusion of the battle, and a clever picture of game counters on a map of Africa on the back. Opening the box (always an exciting moment in a wargamer's life) revealed the goodies within. Sharp looking rule, scenario, and history books. Knut Grunitz's counters are little works of art: clear, colorful but not garish, and well-laid out. Andrew is right; they will warm the cockles of a miniaturist gamer's heart. The massive counters and hexes on the map will make play much easier than in playtest. Counter density and stacking are heavy, but there is now plenty of room to breathe. Charts are solid cardstock, clear and thematically colored. Randy's painstaking attention to detail has paid off in one of the more impressive gaming packages I have seen.

As Andrew noted, we spent a lot of time working to help polish Dennis' fascinating design. It's an unusual system that brilliantly reflects the intricacies of tactical warfare in the period. This is not the mud and blood and trenches of your grandfather's World War One (mine was an airplane mechanic in Texas, actually). The First World War, whose 100th anniversary we are now observing, was incredibly diverse. The conflict raged over multiple continents, a wild variety of terrain, and was fought by arguably the most diverse set of armies in history. Tanga highlights a fascinating part of that diversity, and brings to light a memorable chapter of the Great War.

I look forward to playing again, this time with a beautiful artifact instead of my ad hoc playtest copy. Also hope to hear from those of you who buy and play this lovely game. Be warned that the system takes some getting used to. It's very different, and some of the sub-systems take time to learn. You'll need the patience that General Aitkin lacked to master the intricacies of combat and morale. This is not a game you will "get" right out of the box with the first play through. But familiarity rewards a player with historical insight and the satisfaction of understanding how to maximize the assets he or she commands.

If you have any questions or comments, please let Andrew or me know!

I have done this battle as a Miniatures game a number of times, How easily to convert this new game to miniatures play.

I was just watching on Netflix, "The World's War: Forgotten Soldiers of the Empire" about non-europeans in the Great War. Episode 2 devotes much time to Tanga and German East Africa.
