I've been running some pulpish Star Trek meets Space Hulk type games recently and wanted a big, scary "Space Creature" as part of the scenario. I had a look at GW's site and the idea of paying £40.00 GBP for a Tyranid monster was a total no-no. Then I remembered the Ambull from way back in the Rogue Trader days and how much it reminded me of the Brain Bug from This Island Earth. I had a look on Ebay and found one going very cheap and decided that I wanted it, and bid £10.00 GBP

I won! And today I took delivery of a wonderful Ambull! He's gorgeous! And so cheap!

I've been using a mixture of modified Guardsmen, Cobalt Mercenaries and special characters from other ranges as my main guys, and a few Space Marines for heavy fire-power. Plus my own rules I made up. For scenery I have a mix of resin Ainsty Industrial units and things Iv'e made out of old pill bottles etc.

Nick Hook, AKA Pointy Faced Space Aardvark.

For the bad guys Iv'e been using a mix of other very old Rogue Trader figures and guardsmen bodies with a mix of Tau and Eldar parts to give them a Space Pirate look. I've also been using Genestealer Hybrids as the 'Heavies'.

All I can say is you lucky boy Nick:) I was going to use a rude word but heck if you can get such a deal on EBay I can only call you lucky, been after one of those for years and years, oh well thems the breaks eh! Anyone else out there willing to let a old RT ambull find a new home?
Cheers and happy gaming Nick and all who love the RTiverce and miniatures.

link If it is this guy well done , it's a beauty and has an amazing ability to look menacing or docile depending on the scenario you wish to use them in.
I am pretty sure the old screamer/carnifex models go pretty cheap on eBay now. They make a excellent big bug in 28mm sci-fi pulp games.

Edit found an old pic of one

Chuck05, this is indeed the guy, in those exact colors!

Zargon, I've noticed other ambulls being offered for crazy prices like £40.00 GBP! For that kinda wedge I might as well pop along to GW and buy a brand new monster.

Feet up now, I quite like the Carnifex, but at that size its a bit big for the kind of scenario I'm playing.

PS, I had to pay £2.00 GBP in post and packing!
