The rules are subtitled 'Fleet Actions', but some of the scenario titles give me the impression they involve squadron-type actions (say, round about half a dozen ships a side). And could one easily fight the Nile or Copenhagen with these rules? Would someone be kind enough to outline the scenario set-ups for me? Many thanks. |

the standard "fleet" for one player is about 5-6 SOL … that is easily managed by one player… I would say you could play battle of the nile with about 2 to 3 players per side and probably in one afternoon… the scenarios in the book are not historical scenarios, they are standard set ups aimed at one player vs one player with about 5-6 ships of the line each… those probably play in 2.5 hs once familiar with the rules… hope that helps a bit somehow… cheers Francisco |

Many thanks,Francisco. I notice also from the on-line Contents page that there's a section for one-to-one frigate actions. Are they rules more detailed in this section? |

No, the same rules ( except the bits in the scenario itself ), but more tactical, with the increased sailing points potential of the smaller faster ships |

well, roughly the same.. the mechanics are slightly different… same concept but more of an impulse system ( kind of like starfleet rules if you are familiar ), where you spend your sailing points in impulse steps and fire in one of those impulse when you feels it is the right time.. So it is a small add on of a couple of variations of the rules for the duels, not just "use same rules but put two ships on the table" Personally I'm using Sails of Glory for duels and these for larger actions… It looks like the ODW rules will concentrate on those small actions, so I'm eager to see those as well.. Cheers to you both. Do you know when will the ODW rules be available? |

There was a news item a few days ago about the ODW rules – I believe they are available. A friend played them at Cold Wars and said they are quite detailed. Ok for ship on ship or a small battle, but will seriously slow down the game for a larger one. |

The ODGW rules, POST CAPTAIN, is planned to be released next month in time for Historicon. And Sundance has it right; the rules are primarily for 1-on-1 up to squadron actions (4-6 ships on a side). The reason for that is while there were relatively few large fleet actions, there were literally hundreds of smaller 1-on-1 up to small squadron actions. You might be able to do a part of a larger action, but doing the whole of Trafalgar would be a big stretch. For some additional info see here: TMP link |
