Rockatansky,
Yep! That's how it's done! How are you going to do the quarter and poop decks?
Vol

Rockatansky04 Jun 2015 7:41 a.m. PST

well the decks are pretty much at the level theyre supposed to be except for the grating. if you look at the actual ship the forcastle and quarter deck are the same level just connected with two gangways.

unfortunately it was sort of an afterthought how i was going to make the hole in the deck and do the grating. if i can do it without damaging the paper sides now i will. otherwise i will just have to draw it in there basically

heres a couple views of how the deck looks

oh and vol the reason i'm already posting pics before it's finished is because i'm going to do the masts like you with music wire and fighting tops but i'm not sure when i'll be able to get the stuff. the closest hobby lobby to me is like and hour so i have to find time to go down there. in the meantime i figured a little something to see would be nice haha

Volunteer Fezian04 Jun 2015 9:46 p.m. PST

Use an old credit card for the tops. It cuts easy and is easy to drill, and very strong. Wrap the mast joints with a couple of thread strands for strength and to add detail. You will find that with masts this strong you can pull your rigging tight and it stays that way.
Regards,
Vol
PS: I've seen the music wire somewhere else, maybe Lowes or Walmart, I can't remember. Check around.

ill try lowes. i think i looked a wal mart. i went to michaels which is supposed to be a craft store and they had no idea what i was talking about. all they have is beading wire

Look in their steel and brass rod section

no real progress to report but i wanted vol to know i finally made it to hobby lobby and found the music wire haha! i also found some good mesh stuff that should make nice ratlines. i think i have all i need to finish now. just one question, what size wire do you use for the spars the sails attach to?
