I'm looking to get into some FIW wargaming in 28mm either Songs of Drums and Tomahawks or M&T. I really like Conquest miniatures but I'm looking for French Canadian Militia. Will the Conquest French Compagnie Franches de la Marine Box work or are they the completely wrong models. I'm relatively new to the time period. Any help you guys could offer would be great. Thanks. |

Compagnie Franche de la Marine are not militia. They are semi regulars. Old Glory and Front Rank make good militia. |

Galloping Major. gallopingmajorwargames.com A very comprehensive range of lovely figures. They have I believe four or five packs of Canadian militia. |

While I love the Galloping Major miniatures, they are considerably larger than Conquest Miniatures. I use Galloping Major myself, but I think Conquest look like 14-15 year old kids next to the GM guys. (Granted my co-worker's 14 year old son is 6'5" or 1.95m) |

Conquest and Old Glory will go together much better than Galloping Major which are very large. I have both Conquest and Old Glory in my FIW forces and am pleased with them. Here are a couple of blog posts about the Old Glory figures I've used: link link And the difference between them and the Compagnie Franches: link Jim |

The truth is that there are 2 different 28 mm scales for F&I War. On the smaller side, closer to 25 mm, you have Conquest, Perry, Old Glory and Foundry. Forgive me if I forgot anyone else. On the large side, you have Redoubt, Galloping Major and Kings Mountain. The sculpts are noticeably larger and much more robust. Kings Mountain offers separate heads to choose from, as the heads are not cast onto the body. Over 250 different heads to choose from. It's a matter of personal taste. You could mix the lines on your table, but not in the same units. Or you can be like me and have armies in both scales. Depends on how much you want to get involved, I guess. kingsmtminis.com/catalog |

For completeness, there is also RAFM which I assume would come in just a tad shorter than Old Glory etc. |

I thought Kings Mountain were AWI. Not FIW. |

RAFM are true 25s on thick bases. I like the figures, but they're much shorter than Old Glory or Perry and they don't mix well at all. RAFM's mix with Minifig 25s. |

Disco I made the OMM compatible with F&I War, as the clothing didn't change much on the frontier from F&I to AWI. That's why I did many of the various heads wearing F&I War headgear. There are Toques, Animal Skins, Berets and faces with beards to represnet French Militia and trappers. |

I use RAFM's Flint and Feather range with Perry and Old glory with pretty good results. Gives a less uniform height variation! The All the King's Men range doesn't mix as well. |
