Okay, years ago I started in 15mm, minifigs (really ancient, 1989) and some Stone Mountain. I don't have enough of either to matter re matching, etc. Then I moved to 28mm because I like the detail and poses of the figures, as well as the variety. But I don't care for the room needed for them or the cost.

I don't game with the figures, I just love to paint and collect and would love to do some dios, the 20th ME at Gettysburg and the Texas Brigade (actually probably just one regiment), and the same with The Iron Brigade. I'm hoping to do a one to one figure ratio, hence the move back to 15mm. 1200 or so 28mm is running a lot of money, so far in I only have about half the 20th ME done.

I was always disappointed with some of the Stone Mountain poses, the soldiers carrying muskets at modern "port arms" for example but some poses are great, and would like some more animation in artillery crews. I know that neither unit I have named had attached artillery but I'm sure that at some point I'll augment my forces (BTW I really like the Stone Mountain 3 inch ordnance rifle, the Napoleons, at least back in the 90s not as much). I ordered a few "Peter Pig" figures but I really don't care for them (please don't be offended if you do, its all a matter of individual taste, I'm not insulting them).

Now here's the fine print stuff;

1) I live in the USA so hopefully these figures will be readily available here, if you want to also list stores you recommend for the lines great!

2)I'm looking for, as much as possible, dynamic combat poses. Advancing, firing, and meleeing, I also would like, if possible, casualties.

3) Some independent officer packs, note I'm not really talking about "command packs". For just the 20th ME I'll need over 30 officers, but I don't need 30 standard bearers and drummers as well. BTW if there is an officer back with Chamberlain that would be great.

4) Nice detail would be nice as well, that's one of the things I like about the Stone Mountain figs.

Again I've been out of 15mm ACW for since about 1992 so no doubt my info and perceptions are dated. But again I read any and all responses and take all recommendations into consideration. And just because I don't get something now doesn't mean that I won't in the future. One last bit of info for you all, most of my 28mm figs are Perry (metal and plastic), as well as Redoubt and Old Glory (series one) with a few Sash and Saber and Front Rank thrown in as well.

Thanks as always.

AB ACW via Eureka are my go to, but they are a large 15. Superior sculpts, but not the only ones, you'll get plenty of good suggestions.

Check out Blue Moon 18mm (sold by Old Glory 25's). They're nice, largish, and remind me at least of the style and poses of Sash & Saber 28mm ACW (some of the best).

They're also quite reasonably priced-- inexpensive even if you join the OG Army.

If I was starting over in 15mm, I'd definitely focus on Blue Moon Manufacturing:

AB's are a treat..I would buy singles of officer codes and other poses that I really liked to mix in.

But if I was starting over..I'd have a hard time not going 10mm, and especially the 10mm Cracker Line/Plank Round miniatures from Good Ground.

Yes, if i started over i'd also do 10mm.

For a truer 15mm it would have to be Stone Mountain. You didn't care for Peter Pig either. I also am into the painting and doing my first larger diorama too. I like to use a larger variety of figures as I think it adds a little more to the project. Plus, I just like to see what is available on the market for the real 15mm in ACW. Here are some additional vendors that I have used.

And a wee bit thicker/larger 15mm miniature----

As you will see the Brits make majority of the miniatures. Best of luck in your creation.

Deep Fried Happy Mice is a website that does a lot of ACW and other figure comparison.

I do like Peter Pig, painting all my confederates with that brand.

But absolute favourite has always been Essex for ACW 15mm.

I built my ACW collection around Old Glory15s many years ago when they were owned by Russ Dunaway. I supplemented those figures with pieces from Essex, Battle Honors, Peter Pig, and Minifig. Since Blue Moon 15mm/18mm have come on the scene I have added some of those pieces to my collection… unique things like their field hospital. If I was starting my collection today, I would probably build it around the Blue Moon 15mm/18mm line and supplement that with unique pieces from other companies. You can see my collection in diorama format link

Thanks all. Wow War in 15mm that is some nice work. It looks like I have some variety which is good. BTW, in re 10mm, as I've gotten older and my eyes have gotten worse, well, I would love to do 10mm but I 'm not sure that I could see them let alone paint them.

If you find a line you like ask for a sample or two. Makes a big difference when you hold an 18mm to a 15mm miniature. They are ALL cool but it comes down to that preferred size.
