Great job. I really like the colors of the horse. |

Now that I like! May I post this over at the various Westfalia galleries? |

Now that is dear to my heart. I love this model and posted some pictures here a year or so ago. Still on Westfalia Facebook page, but never made it to their gallery. I love your grained effect on the wheels. Mine were just blocked in dull red and your's work much better. Your work on the case on the roof is excellent. There is a technical term for the roof bags but………I forget. Your shading of the lapels on the driver….oh yes…I might redo mine now! Do add in some reins though. It suddenly puts the driver in context and it is dead easy. Open a nice bottle of Rioja but keep the foil top, over the cork. Thin strips from driver's hands, to strap on horse's back, and then to bridle. I gave the driver a whip as well. A plastic glaze to the side windows is nice too The lantern. I learnt this from my sons and LotRs. Paint the glass much darker grey. Then paint the lower half with a crescent of lighter grey, a C on its back. Finally put one white dot on the top right hand corner and varnish with gloss (two coats). Incredible……….. Let me add a close up to show the lantern and the reins (both dead easy!) Rest is on Westfalia Facebook

Hi Giles, Beautiful rendition of this unique & very interesting subject. I always look forward to your Napoleonic updates and particularly can't wait to see your finished Sergeant Ewart taking the eagle of the 45th. I always enjoy your updates & great to see so much still rolling off the work bench. Cheers mate, Mark S. |

Thanks for the kind words, chaps. Hi Mark – good to hear from you! Hope all is well. Deadhead – I used your photos for inspiration and reference. Thanks for the tips on the reins – I'll give those a go. And the lantern looks great – a bit of touching up on mine is required, I think! Kawe – by all means. Giles |

I just went back today to learn from your painting. There is always something hits you and it was not the wheels or the roof cases in the end. It was the knuckles of the driver ………If I compare my chap with the pipe with your image of the driver's hands……. and of course I now realise it would have been a clay pipe not a wooden one! Well I like my lanterns. But, for everything else…… |
