After looking at several ww2 video's of each game am I right in assuming BG Kursk has more "tank heavy" rules that Disposable Heroes? In your opinion, which WW2 Skirmish rules are more suitable for armor action? Thanks |

Have not played Disposable Heroes. I do like BGK a lot. It fits armor as well as infantry. Artillery is not as devastating as it should be (but then we wouldn't play WW2 if it was!). I like it's order mechanisms and battle morale---a good mix of random events. Mike |

I wouldn't describe BGK as skirmish rules meself – designed for a platoon to a battalion. Whilst they have well crafted infantry rules, and pay proper attention to the neutralising, rather than killing, effect of medium and long range infantry direct fire weapons, they are good armour rules too. The artillery rules seem a bit long winded, but are fine once you get used to them, and work well. |

Agreed. In DH you run a squad or two, in BGK a company or two… |

Yes… they do kinda aim at different things. DH is a skirmish game, platoon at most really, and gives a good fast game. Our Battlegroup system can be played at a platoon, but add in support and extras. Its handy as it plays from single platoons to multiples just the same. But DH is much more the skirmish game, I guess id describe Battlegroup as mass skirmish, or even 'kampfgruppe' level with small combined arms forces fighting. Some of my favourite BG battles have been with single platoons though. Very tense and tight affairs that make for a quick, but exciting game. Played alot of DH years ago and enjoyed it, but for disclosure I write Battlegroup with Warwick Kinrade so im a little biased! Both good games though, and either will entertain you for an evening, whichever you choose. |

Bah, looks like BG Kursk doesn't really lend itself to "solo" play. I really liked it's armor penetration table. Guess I could find a more solo friendly set of skirmish rules that handles armor well and incorporate a penetration table similar! |

Bah, looks like BG Kursk doesn't really lend itself to "solo" play. It's as suitable as any other rules (except those that are expressly written to play solo). Yes, you will know when one side is approaching its BR rating, I don't find that a big deal. You still won't know exactly when your BR will run out and that's actually better for solo play than a lot of other rules. |

I play solo all the time to check scenarios. Have not tried to specifically use any special solo rules, just try to be honest in olaying. Fun for me! |

I think if you are going to fight only with tanks, nothing else, maybe you can use DH:Point Blank and use the clever detail about what the tank crews are doing.. ( look at this link link ) I think BG really comes to shine when you want combined arms, even if doing smaller games the rules combine pretty well different elements. I think it is a particularly good system to represent attack defense scenarios. If you do only tanks you'll be missing on the other cool stuff in the rules. The original DH is fun when you do mainly a platoon of infantry and at the most one or two tanks ( like a zoom in action ). More of an infantry level game, with some support elements. |
