(Game of thrones…)
I am just as much in the dark as you are.
Most of what went on tonight is NOT in the books.
Well, Arya's arc is pretty close, as is Cersei's.

Hardhome did not happen as in the books. But WOW!!!!!
The Night's King has just told Jon snow that he KNOWS. What exactly, I do not know.
But did you see what a Valyrian Steel blade does against White Walkers? Brienne has one. grin

And it's "only" Episode 8!

I find it a lot more enjoyable NOT knowing what comes up, as opposed to grumbling "That's not how it happened in the books!"

Being episode 8, it's a little like the Super Bowl being only 2 weeks away. I will have to wait for MONTHS for Season 6 to come around. Hopefully, Book 6 will be out as well as the Hedge Knight collection.

I was so worried about Dolorous Edd…. grin

Tango0131 May 2015 9:28 p.m. PST

Happy both enjoyed this chapter my good friend!!

I'm really exciting about how the characters interacted between them.

For example: Tyron with Khaleesy… Oh!My! What a good enterprise they can made!! If they can add the Spider… well they have much chance than others!!.
Don't get very well what Sir Loras want to do… died in the arena?.

Sansa and Theon!… Oh!My, when I see her waiting him on her chair… well… if they work together… poor Bolton's.!!

The Battle was great!! . At the level of Blackwather… more dramatic imho.
Those zombies are loosing their commanders… one by the fat guy… another by Jon… (smile)
Maybe a Dragon can stop them? (smile)

Side show about the rest… but still interesting.

Now… what we can expected!!?? (smile).

A big battle at the Wall?.

Like very much the Gigant!! (smile).

LOVED this chapter!!.

The final moments of the episode were excellent. All quiet, all rise…goosebumps!

I just wish the white walker high mucketymuck didn't look quite so much like a bleached-out Darth Maul. Meh, small matter.

I suppose next week is the big Stannis/Bolton dust-up…will that little charmer Ramsay survive the season? (And who knew they could find someone that would make Joffery look like Dennis the Menace?)

I'm REALLY looking forward to Cersei's, um, defense attorney.

doug redshirt31 May 2015 9:46 p.m. PST

Depressing in the end though. All those petty lords to the south trying to sit on a throne, when it really means nothing in the end.

Other then that this was the best episode of the season. And those dead zombie children just staring at the woman chieftain. You knew how that would end. Lot of gut punches tonight. One of those episodes that left me with my mouth open as the credits rolled. Just that feeling of hopelessness to it all.

That episode was all win.

I suppose next week is the big Stannis/Bolton dust-up

"Big" would entail more than the 20 good men Ramsey requested. I have a feeling there will be some flaying next week.

nevinsrip01 Jun 2015 2:41 a.m. PST

How many think that Ramsey will end up skinned or killed by Reek?

skippy000101 Jun 2015 4:13 a.m. PST

I never liked the books, whatever the series does is fine by me.

Sansa should have Ramsey impaled…slowly.

Tyrion/Dinaerys/the Spider power triumvirate would be awesomely interesting.

Cersei will have the High Sparrow for dinner before long.

I have a feeling that when I finally get Book 6 in my grubby paws, I'll be muttering "That's not the way it happened in the show!"
The show has now replaced the books as canon with me.

YogiBearMinis Supporting Member of TMP01 Jun 2015 4:48 a.m. PST

That is a good point--for how many people who have both read the books and watched show has the show now become the dominant version? This season is far better than Book 5, IMHO, and I imagine the next season will continue that trend.

Coelacanth01 Jun 2015 5:17 a.m. PST

This season has moved the ball a lot further than the last one.

Yes, the show is better than the books. The trimming of the fat from the books is simply brilliant.

Winston Smith01 Jun 2015 7:21 a.m. PST

With Lord of the Rings, it's the opposite.
I had read and FINISHED the trilogy at least a half dozen times before I saw the movies. So to me the books are canon.

If the HBO show becomes canon for most people, Martin has no one to blame but himself. Finish the damn books, George.

haywire01 Jun 2015 7:31 a.m. PST

I almost expected to hear a telepathic…

"Look at all these dead, Jon Snow. You could not save them. Look at all these undead, Jon Snow. You will not stop them!"

Winston Smith01 Jun 2015 7:47 a.m. PST

I'm actually liking the show better than the last couple of books. Martin's glacial pace within the books is favorable only in comparison with his actual writing speed.

Thomas Thomas01 Jun 2015 2:03 p.m. PST

A very rare occasion when the HBO hacks added something to the saga. They botched showing the (more interesting) battle between the Night Watch and the Wights/Others from Storm of Swords but made up for it by the great if largely invented battle at Hardhome. Wun Wun! (Martins invention but well used.)

The books are cannon the serias more akin to your drunken uncle having seen Hamlet and trying to explain what happened.

D&D, who wrote lasts nights episode, have redeemed themselves (at least compared to the rest of this seasons hack writing and plot holes – mostly by other writers).

In fairness to them they would be the first to tell you they aren't in Martin's league but have gotten VERY VERY lucky in the material they have gotten to adapt. They seem to be steering back to Martin's version just in time to save a silly season (they botched Dorne even worse than the Iron Islands).

Great battle though – working on a A Game of Ice and Fire scenario for it as we speak – first non-book battle to get in.

> In fairness to them they would be the first to tell you they aren't in Martin's league but have gotten VERY VERY lucky

Agreed, at this point they are far superior. GRRM has to cut the crap out of the books.

Winston Smith01 Jun 2015 3:24 p.m. PST

Martin's game plan was to write an endless trilogy at his own leisurely pace. Robert Jordan anyone?
Then HBO signed on and his leisurely pace is suddenly a detriment. George knew that. He's no babe in the woods. He worked in the industry for many years. He knows how the game is played. So he had buckled down and his goal is to get Book 6 in our grubby paws before the start of season 6.
I suspect a lot of the heavy lifting for Book 7 is already done. At least I hope so.

Whether HBO or the books are better is a matter of opinion. Casting spoilers suggest that the War of the Iron Islands Successipn may be drug in. Rats. That's so boring. As is Dorne. And Aegon. And Arianna. And Quentyn. I could go on….
HBO has tightened the story considerably. Would that it had been on hand from the beginning.
Who is the French Philosopher who wrote "I apologize for writing such a long letter. I didn't have the time to write a short one."
