Does anyone know of a good tutorial – ideally online – for making realistic looking field defences and siege works for 6mm-sized troops to cover the period 1450 – 1815? |

I recently sent an article to MWBG on making 6mm terrain and part of it covers basic fortifications such as redoubts and trenches. I use a piece of 'D' shaped moulding available from any DIY chain cut it lengthways down the middle. You can use the edge of of a largish file to make the embrasures. Then simply cut your angles for the side pieces, glue together on a base along with some trimmed matchsticks for the vertical battens, cover with your preferred basing material and presto. redoubts. Trenches can be made using both halves of the moulding laid out in a parallel fashion. Admittedly they stand proud of the table but they are portable and only representative. |

A while ago I made some field defences for Borodino and other uses mostly with a combination of acrylic sealant and card with the addition of gabions from either Irregular or Baccus and styrofoam. Here is link to the technique I used link and some of the resulting terrain link link |
