Leland, you still waaaantssss it? If so you're in luck, I've got to clear the gaming shelves, and all of my Space Battleship Yamato 2199/Star Blazers/Battlestar Galactica starship kits need to go -

I have some questions for you guys who've built some of those bigger ships.
1. Could you paint the hull with magnetic paint without losing too much detail?
2. Are the details on them(turrets, sattelite dishes etc.) Large enough to act as cover for some fleet scale mecha like the ones GZG does in their japanese fleet.

BlackWidowPilot Fezian06 Dec 2016 3:59 p.m. PST

@Blackstar, thanks, but I don't need the whole armada! I've just taken delivery of a small gaggle of Yamato 2199 kits recently from HLJ, and I have been a-buildin' away on what I have stockpiled as it is (pix will follow soon!).

I suspect however for the asking price you will find a new home for this magnificent ensemble…

@ BlackWidowPilot

It was worth a try wink Still no takers, though.Might be just as well, I really was having trouble parting with the Gatlantis Kiska Astro Carrier, it was hard for me to acquire in the first place – it cost me $79 USD on eBay, because HLJ was heavily backordered on it at the time.

BlackWidowPilot Fezian09 Dec 2016 3:24 p.m. PST

@Blackstar,

I say keep that carrier and the two smaller Galantis ships as its escort cadre. Then you at least have a core showcase carrier task group from which you can spin off games and build upon later as your circumstances and time permit.

Keep the Garunto heavy bomber as well, and bundle the rest into distinctive carrier groups to sell separately by the group. Put the three Gaidorols with one of the Gamillon battle carriers, and the Deusura core ship and two Deusura command ship models with the other. The EDF carrier goes with the EDF DDs.

@ BlackWidowPilot

Those groupings are exactly how I originally saw all of those ships when I first purchased them wink

Anyway, I have decided not to sell the lot. I put together one of the Deusera Command ships and one of the Gaidorals, just to see how they went together. I'm going to build the rest of the ships in the lot, because I am going to seriously start playing the games I bought them for, 5150: Fighter Command and 5150: Carrier Command. I also have about 200+ of those wonderful Silent Death plastic starfighters to finish painting.

Also, Ed, The Two Hour Wargames Guy, is working on a new sci-fi supplement that several of these ships are perfect for.

I started working on the Balgray the other day

It's BIG – about 16 inches. It is perfect for use with Two Hour Wargames' 5150: Carrier Command, as are the Silent Death plastic starfighters. I'm glad I decided to keep all of my Yamato 2199 kits. I can't wait to finish the Balgray and start on the Kiska.

You can see more photos of my progress on the Balgray HERE

That it is Leland wink

Easily worth what it cost me. All of the Star Blazers 2199 1/1000 scale kits are awesome. Once I get back to work and have some $$$ to spend, I'll more than likely pick up the Darold, Lambea, and Schderg kits, although, the one I really, really, really want is the 1/1000 Dromelaze the Third – you talk about a BEAST – 24 inches long!

Just went and spent money on more Star Blazers ships on HLJ – got lucky and snagged some that I've been waiting to come back in stock:

and a couple of the Mecha Collection ones

I am adding these to the "fleet" of Comet Empire kits. I've already got several of the Yamato 2199 Mecha Collection Gatlantis ships and a 1/1000 Nazca class Astro Strike Carrier, not to mention 18 plastic Silent Death Lance Electras and 18 Talons. I'm working on stats for these to use with THW's 5150: Fighter Command/5150: Carrier Command – they will represent the naval assets of a new race that is being added to THW's 5150 Universe in the near future – just gotta sell Ed on the stats/background for a future supplement wink

@ BlackWidowPilot

Leland, are you still in need of the Mecha Collection fighter kit from the Balgray? If you are, contact me through my blog

I sense the TMP bug has struck again, but this is a nifty bit of threadnomancy, so perhaps I need to round up some new photos and post them accordingly… evil grin

6" diameter or so Millennium Falcon diecast 25% off the already reduced price at the Disney Store near us.

@emckinney,

indeed, timing is everything! Speaking of which, looks like HobbyLink Japan has just gotten a restock at last of some of the fancy big 1/1000 scale ship sets:

Looks like I need to carve some time out for my most recent procurement acquisition for the fleet:
