Hello everyone. The Mounted Grenadiers of the Guard have always been a favorite unit of mine. They just project a feeling of power and gravitas. So here are two sets I recently painted: The first is a unit of 18mm AB figures done for my own small collection:

Next a set of 28mm Perry figures done for a client:

For some reason all the "aurore" (orange) trim has photographed far too light and yellow. Don't know why!

Thanks for looking!

Regards,

John

The painting of the lace is terrific and I'll be sure the aurore is absolutely right in daylight. This is a photography/white balance/processing issue. You could take the warm yellow out of these even now……..I would not bother. They do look so much better in the longer tailed, lapelled coat, than the surtout, I feel. I even think the 18mm figs have marginally better shapes to the bearskins…….

great work

So I have been trying to convince myself that I should get away with working less hard on 18mm Napoleonics. You are not helping.

Without the captions, I wouldn't know that the two are in different scales. Your painting is outstanding. This does show what can be done with AB figures. I would love to hear AB's comments

Do you prime black ? The detail on the cross straps is just amazing

Fantastic work. I would have taken the 18mm figures for 28mm. Superb!

I think they all look wonderful. It's always very pleasing when I see my figures painted to this standard

Lovely work. Always though the horse grenadiers looked a bit boring but this changes my mind.

jwebster: I prime in white – Tamiya Fine Surface Primer. It is available at Hobby Lobby and qualifies for their weekly/monthly 40% off coupon.

Thank you Mr. Barton! Your figures are an absolute joy to paint! The anatomical proportions are spot on. And the weapons, accoutrements are perfectly in scale with figures. It is a pity that the makers of metal 28mm figures seem unable to achieve this. Frankly, I've never met a metal 28mm piece that I truly loved. The plastics seem to be better. Again Mr. Barton I stand in awe of your talent!
