Having a bit of a warhammer 40k 2nd edition reboot and I've just completed a crimson fists army, link

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Nice, I'll be interested to see how you do the chaos OPFOR.

The battlesuit as dreadnought looks good aswell, fits in well.

I went a bit mad with my not-SMurf project adding Rhinos and a scout squad.

Great job!

IMO, Khurasan Cane Toad would make a nice not-Rhino…

OPFOR??? What's that stand for?

At the minute I'm looking to use critical mass figures, with some added spiky bitz for the Chaos troops!

I'll check out that Cane Toad, cheers!

OPFOR stands for "OPposing FORce"…

[Pedant Mode On]

An OPFOR is a military unit tasked with simulating the ennemy (tactics, procedures, equipment) for training purpose. So the CSM should NOT be called the OPFOR to the SM… A group of regular SM tasked to simulate CSM during an exercise could.

[Pedant Mode Off]

An alternative non-Rhino: link

I think there was talk of a skulls/spikes accessory pack at some point as well, but can't find it at present.

CP Models make some separate head packs for headswaps which might be useful for Chaos forces: link

Excellent work.

Nice! I love those Ion Age guys for 15mm 40k, mine are Dark Angels.

For a Rhino, I'd go with an M113 APC in the appropriate scale, the look is pretty darn close, and scale models can get reasonably cheap.

ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa30 May 2015 9:54 a.m. PST

I went for 1:76th plastic M113's for Rhinos and even they are a little small – according to fluff a Rhino is supposedly 6.6m x 4.5m x 3.6m (JB models 1:76th M113: 6.4cm x 3.6cm x 2.5cm)

Ah, here we go: link

Rebel Minis' Titan APC (and a little plasticard) make great Rhino proxies, and their Earth Force APC makes a fairly decent (and lower-profiled) Predator: link

Hmmm how about these Type 563 IFV from Combat Wombat 3x $18 USD I think is a good deal, with some additional plasticard bits you could easily create a GW Rhino based vehicle.

There are also several papercraft Rhinos offered for free download at various places. You could resize the templates and cut them out of plasticard for some fairly durable and accurate models.

@Trojan Points

You didn't know that the Horus Heresy was a SMurf training exercise that just got out of hand after an argument over squad deployment doctrines in the Codex Astartes?

infojunky01 Jun 2015 11:46 p.m. PST

1/76th scale airfix M113s make great Rhinos. They are the right heft and size as the GW models…
