I have had a go at another one of Steve Jones' "Command Challenge" scenarios, this one based on the Battle of the Piave River which appeared in the March issue of MWwBG: link |

Glad the scenario gave you an interesting game. Steve |

Thanks, I really enjoyed that (and Steve's magazine article – as always). Just out of interest can you give the table siz and how long the game took to play. I have a digital version of the Polemos rules (and the companion) and always thought that on the set-up maps, the units just looked like wall to wall formations within the map grid, but seeing your game and another recently, i realise that is not the case in reality. Are the Tempo rules solitaire friendly? I ask because I know there is a bidding process and I am not sure how solitaire players get past that. |

Thanks very much to you both. The game took about 90 minutes to play, I think, and it was played on a 4'x3' board. I have found the temp rules very solitaire friendly. What I do is replace the tempo dice roll with a fixed number to reflect the general's quality and then randomize the tempo bid using an appropriate die. So, in the rules you would have: Marshal Lannes throws a D6 then adds a tempo point for every corps or formation under his direct command. Then he bids for the initiative with those tempo points, bidding at least 1. In my solo method you have: Marshal Lannes gets 6 for being a decisive commander and then a tempo point for every formation under his command (for example, we'll say 4). This gives him a total of 10. Then I use a D8 to generate his bid. Cuesta might get 4 as a plodding commander and with 3 formations he'll have a total of 7. I'd use a D6 to generate his bid. Does that all make sense? |

Yes – very much so, thanks – you have knocked out two concerns for me, solitaire and playing space. The rules are back on my radar. |
