And it should be Wheaton's Law: Don't be a . It is getting rather silly that we have to make rules against Holocaust Denial, advocating genocide, personal attacks, etc. Why not just have Wheaton's Law? HOWEVER, this would require even handedness in enforcing rules. You can't DH one side who is being a and give the other a "talking to". Both must suffer. No justice, no peace! |

There already is only one rule: "Bill's house, Bill's rules." And we all see how well that's working.
And it should be Wheaton's Law: Don't be a . But what if your name is Richard? |

"Don't be a dick." Prosecute ruthlessly. |

If we are looking to replace many rules with just one, this one has a proven track record. Its framers replaced seven unwieldy and open-to-interpretation commandments with just one simple and easy-to-understand one that covered every situation: ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS. |

What more do you need? Be ruthless but even handed. ESPECIALLY if the perp is more or less sympatico with your own views. Don't talk to them. Slap them in the face with a foul mackerel! Just like you do to those with whom you are not in agreement. |

Wheaton's Law should be on TMP's banner in all languages. |

One rule to rule them all. Is Winston Smith building a tower with an all-seeing eye? Cheers and good gaming. Rod Robertson. |

Don't be a is good rule to apply all forms of human activity. Certainly preferable to "anything which is not explicitly allowed is forbidden." |

It seems to me that there are four TMP Message Boards, one proficient contributor on TMP, one persistent Troll, and one other hobby site that manages to get the worst out of some TMPers …oh, and (whisper it quietly) Dear Editor, when he's not chilled out. Therefore, ignore all or some or none of the above but concentrate MORE on the hobby and relax yourself. Wars will never cease. |

"One rule to rule them all… building a tower with an all-seeing eye?" (he-he) … And 9 rings given to the 9-Old-School-Wargamers, who were greedy and took the rings, then deceived and enslaved to the One-Rule. "concentrate MORE on the hobby and relax yourself. Yup! Least the time of neurosis has come, and the time of the Elves has gone. |

Dear Editor Bill You write. "But they need the rules, so they know what not to do." God tried this, three times! Once in the Garden, once at Sinai, once at the Mount where the Gallilean handy-man made a sermon. Didn't work for him. Are you wiser than he? |

You're right, John. But if TMP had that one rule, what would there be left for Bill to do? "Editing" would take up about ten minutes of his day and he'd have to get on with rolling out TMP 4.0. So, you can clearly see, it is very important to have a huge and constantly changing set of rules, indifferently and unequally applied. Otherwise, Armintrout would have to actually contribute to the hobby instead of engaging in his favorite past-time: cultivating drama. |

…a huge and constantly changing set of rules… These are the rules. There are only a few of them, and they are not complicated. TMP link |
